Saudi Authorities Say 11 Arrested

Jun 7 08:10 AM US/Eastern

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - Police have arrested 11 suspected militants, including one allegedly involved in last year’s foiled suicide attack on the world’s largest oil processing facility, the Saudi Interior Ministry said Thursday.

The official Saudi Press Agency, quoting an unidentified ministry official, said the men were all Saudis and belonged to “the deviant group”—the term Saudi officials use to refer to Islamic militants and members of al-Qaida.

The official said the 11 incited and financed the group’s activities, and authorities have evidence that one of them has alleged links to the Abqaiq oil installation, according to the news agency.

In the February 2006 attack, security guards opened fire on two explosives-laden vehicles that were trying to enter the Abqaiq oil complex, the world’s largest oil processing facility, located in eastern Saudi Arabia. The vehicles exploded without damaging the facility.

Thursday’s announcement came two days after the ministry said three men with suspected links to al-Qaida had been arrested. The three allegedly used the Internet to plan terrorist attacks, recruit supporters and publish tracts on militant ideology.

Saudi security forces and police have been cracking down on extremists for several years after militants attacked foreigners and others involved in the country’s oil industry, seeking to topple the monarchy for its alliance with the U.S.

In April, police arrested more than 170 al-Qaida-linked plotters accused of planning to replicate the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by dispatching suicide pilots to military bases and launching attacks on the oil refineries that drive the economy in Osama bin Laden’s homeland.

It is such a relief to hear the war is non-existent. That means my husband must be coming home soon. I bet he was just teasing me about the 15-18 month deployment. They must just be doing training maneuvers. If that is the case…that means he could be home any minute……..
Oh so much to do…get the Welcome Home!! banner out. Straighen up the house…. Invite our friends and family over. This is going to be great!!! Put fresh sheets on the bed….light some candles….
Hmmmm what else…vacuum out his truck. The kids and I use it more than mine now because it smells like him and we feel closer to him….. Think I can lose 10 lbs quickly? I’ve spent a few too many sleepless nights snacking…..and waiting. What to wear…………?
This non-existent war is great news—you’ve made my day Pat!!!

Hard to belive there are people that would still support Edwards. I was starting to believe its a political strategy of the vast left wing conspiracy —- that Edwards is intentionally throwing his campaign. …..Like he is intentionally sandbagging only to step out later and point all his followers to Obama of somethng like that.

Then I remember.. I come to my senses

These 11 are indeed not terrorists. They’re fighting for freedom. There really is no war on terror and there really is no vast left-wing conspiracy - its all me. I’m just wacked in the head.

Wouldn’t want to be in their sandals right about now. The Saudis don’t have an ACLU or a Human Rights Watch in their country.

    Tsk,tsk.

Edwards needs to be sent to Saudia Arabia.

Yeah, I wonder what Edwards would use for a bumper sticker campaign if someone took him to oh…say…Diyala province in Iraq and just dropped him off somewhere in the middle of the night?

The Saudis have had plenty of other problems with Al Qauda in the past. They even have fuckwits that try to blow themselves up inside of Mecca.

But I guess this is just all “blowback” from Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy of oppressing Sunni Muslims.
