Pelosi, Reid to announce new push to end Iraq war
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) are expected tomorrow to announce a new coordinated effort to force votes in July to end the Iraq war, according to Democratic insiders.
Reid has already publicly declared that Senate Democrats will offer four Iraq-related amendments to the upcoming 2008 Defense authorization bill, including a proposal by Reid and Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) to set a firm timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by next spring.
Pelosi is planning to announce that the House will also vote on a bill setting a new withdrawal timetable of April 1, 2008, although the details of the proposal were still up in the air at press time, according to Democratic sources. The House will consider this proposal as a freestanding bill, said the sources.
Pelosi is also planning to force a vote on a proposal by Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, to repeal the 2002 use-of-force resolution for Iraq. This “deauthorization” proposal may be offered as an amendment to the 2008 Defense spending bill, which the House is scheduled to take up following the week-long July 4th recess.
In addition, House Democrats will push proposals to prohibit the creation of permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq, as well as a “readiness” initiative similar to that authored by Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.). The Webb proposal would limit deployments of U.S. soldiers and marines in Iraq by requiring the Pentagon to keep military units from being sent back to Iraq until they have been stateside as long as they were in the combat zone.
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), chairman of the powerful Defense subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee and a leader of the anti-war movement, is planning to offer his own new measures as part of the Defense spending bill.
Pelosi has been quietly meeting with various factions within the Democratic Caucus this week on the Iraq initiative, including Blue Dog conservatives skittish about being seen as anti-military, and the Out of Iraq Caucus, whose members have pushed hard for an end to the U.S. military involvement in Iraq.
Both Pelosi and Reid have come to the conclusion that President Bush’s plan for a “surge” in the number of U.S. troops inside Iraq, has failed and that Democrats, despite losing their showdown with Bush and the Republicans over the recent Iraq supplemental funding bill, must continue to force votes to end the war. Gen. David Petraeus is supposed to report back to Congress in September on the state of the “surge,” but Democrats have decided not to wait for his report.
“The surge is a failure, it isn’t working,” said a Democratic aide familiar with the new initiative. “We just can’t leave American soldiers out there dying and not do anything.”
Reps. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the leaders of the Out of Iraq Caucus attended a meeting with Pelosi, other Democratic leaders and the Blue Dog lawmakers today.
After the meeting, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Democratic leaders “are working to build a consensus” within the Caucus on the Iraq proposals, but promised votes all next month on the issue. Hoyer said no date had been scheduled at this time for any of these votes, although the Defense spending bill is set to reach the House floor in mid-July.
Oh, so they are going to play that game again. Fucking liberals are like dogs returning to their own vomit.
No probs. They’ll lose again.
June 29th, 2007 at 9:57 amIt makes me angry to even hear their fucking names. Why the democrat party is even allowed to exist here is beyond me.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:01 amOkay, so if I were to buy into the rhetoric of Comrades Pelosivich, Reidovich, Feingoldovich, Murthovich, Schumervich, Clintonivich, & Obamavich, (Which I don’t but I could however go on about the other viches!)that all is lost! Then what’s next next?
I demand as an American citizen, veteran, and voter that these elected officials have a detailed plan for eliminating the enemies of the peace and security of the American Public at large.
What does phased re-deployment mean other than I am taking my ball and going home? That makes as much sense as being ahead by 4 touchdowns in the Super Bowl in the final two minutes and forfeiting the game! That’s the mantra of coward’s and quitters, and no plan at all.
These boneheads were screaming for more and more troops for months before any “surge” proposal was presented, and the moment it is they are against. They vote overwhelmingly for the current commander’s appointment and then pull the rug out of from under him claiming he doesn’t know his ass from his elbow and they in their ivory tower know more than those on the ground. Arrogant gits aren’t they?
They claim they were given their “majority”, razor thin and insignificant to me, and the American people wanted change. I contend that voter apathy elevated the scum to the top of the swamp, nothing more than that.
The troops know what they are fighting for, primarily for their buddies to the left and right, and they understand the big picture of this fight. Americans are winners, and are proud of the actions being taken in their names, and from my friends who are still serving they believe in the mission and task at hand.
So I ponder this question, what would Reidovich, and Pelosivich really fight for? I don’t mean legislatively, because their depravity knows no bounds, but life and death stuff, what would they really fight for?
The answer is nothing. They would attempt to negotiate to save their own skins with savages sacrificing their own for their own survival.
Take back America in 2008, vote and haul out the trash!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:21 amsomewhere in the Constitution of the United States there has got to be some sort of provision where the people can remove elected persons from office. i’m talking about elected people either failing to perform their duties or behaving in a manner inconsistent with the wishes of those who elected them and the people having the right to raise the bullshit flag and have the elected person removed. these two, Pelosi and Reid, are prime examples of why a provision of this type should be invoked (if it exists) or introduced as an amendment (if it doesn’t). personally, I think the entire legislature, house of reps and the senate, should have to return to their districts and face a public inquiry into their actions and behavior, they don’t get to release a statement from their “camp”, they don’t get to sidestep questions, they don’t get to respond with vague answers, it’s time these assholes are made to take responsibility for what they say and do.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:29 amhey monkey,,, it is called TREASON,,,and i can’t remember what the penalty is???? no one better “TELL IT TO THE MARINES”..,,,
June 29th, 2007 at 10:34 amThe “Surge” is working & they know it, so they want to see it fail to save their butts. Also; if President Bush has some sort of military operation in the works to take care of Iran’s nukes & military invasion of S. Iraq they want to stop that too. Bush’s biggest mistake was not enacting the Seditions Laws that were used during WW I & II. He would have had the support of the American people the first few months after 9/11.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:41 amSadly, a lot of Americans will believe these traitors because they are in denial about the enemy we face. I mean to think that if we just leave Iraq, the Middle East all will go back to a pre 9/11 world. Talk about surreal. Well the following hopefully will wake some people up
Islam’s House of Islam and House of War
——————————————————————————–
The world is divided into the House of Islam and the House of War, the Dar al-Islam and the Dar al-harb. The Dar al-Islam is all those lands in which a Muslim government rules and the Holy Law of Islam prevails. Non-Muslims may live there on Muslim sufferance. The outside world, which has not yet been subjugated, is called the “House of War,” and strictly speaking a perpetual state of jihad, of holy war, is imposed by the law. The law also provided that the jihad might be interrupted by truces as and when appropriate. In fact, the periods of peace and war were not vastly different from those which existed between the Christian states of Europe for most of European history.
The law thus divides unbelievers theologically into those who have a book and profess what Islam recognizes as a divine religion and those who do not; politically into dhimmis, those who have accepted the supremacy of the Muslim state and the primacy of the Muslims, and harbis, the denizens of the Dar al-harb, the House of War, who remain outside the Islamic frontier, and with whom therefore there is in principle, a canonically obligatory perpetual state of war until the whole world is either converted or subjugated.

June 29th, 2007 at 10:46 amTo reiterate: What seems to be going on is the congressional leadership has seen the intelligence and contingency planning of the Pentagon and are trying to get ahead of what is going to happen anyway according to the planning, and try to claim credit/make political hay. So, instead of things playing out according to military plan, the ruthless rat $%#@!%# Dems are going to try to pass laws (and make political hay, because Bush will veto) to give the appearance they caused what happens, to happen. They are telegraphing our strategic planning to our enemies by attempting to do this, and they know it. Playing politics with the war, because they are too lame to actually think of America first. DISPICABLE SCUM!
June 29th, 2007 at 11:05 amOK… The same tactics used to defeat the Shamnesty bill must be used and actually ramped up even higher for defeating the Surrender bill, as RINO’s will vote for it.
That means calling your Representative, calling your Senator, calling, calling, calling, and after that, more calling. Email, and call, write letter’s and call.
The DemoCommucrats have always enjoyed much more success in this area. Because we have RINO’s in our party, we have to ramp up. You, I, WE, must tell everyone to make contact. Crash their phone systems with so many phone calls (this CAN BE DONE, the Senate phone system actually CRASHED because WE called in! You see? It isn’t hopeless, WE MADE IT HAPPEN!), and email servers with so many emails. Call all of them, the patriots actually serving us, the RINO’s, and yes, even the traitorous DemoCommucrats. We cannot stop the surrender.
They have always been better at this, but now it will be worse because more RINO’s will follow Lugar and Voinivich. We must out-contact the hippies. Or…
We will lose this war Vietnam style, and the Dark tide of Islam will rise in the world. Let’s stop World War III before it happens.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:10 amSorry all, the ‘We cannot stop the surrender.’ should read…
We have to stop the surrender.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:12 amI can’t believe this. They choose to do this now, just when all the good news are starting to pour out from Iraq (not from the mainstream media though, because they’re too busy with Paris Hilton). Despite the vicious CNN headlines, based on the promising reports from independent journalists and other blogs, I feel optimistic about the surge. Clearly, it’s working. I hope they let the soldiers do their jobs- especially now that the Iraqis are starting to rise up against al-Q.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:26 am“The surge is a failure, it isn’t working,” said a Democratic aide familiar with the new initiative. “We just can’t leave American soldiers out there dying and not do anything.”
This makes my blood boil. Those worthless, cowardly, bags of shit. I cant describe the disgust i am feeling for these people.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:43 amIts just another political move …. If the surge works the democrats will have lost their “We can’t win” mantra.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:48 amA shameless group hoping and praying for failure like their foreign counterparts. Their vanity is on the line.
So if anybody ever gets the chance, please stab them all in the uterus to prevent these idiots from reproducing…. ew, i just threw up a little. because first, that means some sick bastard had to sleep with Pelosi and second… that means more then one Pelosi in the world… ew.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:09 pmFucking pussy cowards …
June 29th, 2007 at 12:50 pmThe sad thing is that 80% of the Sheeople out their will click over from American Idol long enough to hear some totally biased report on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and the most liberal of them all - PBS and they’ll agree that the war is going badly. Most people need their news force feed so they don’t have to think. That is why the MSM can site surveys saying most Amercians want us to leave Iraq because they don’t know any better.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:16 pmI can only imagine, had we been fighting WWII with the same level of resolve as these traitors demonstrate towards Iraq, that we would be speaking Japanese or German today.
This Fifth Column led by Soros and his ilk needs to be taken down.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:33 pmSheeople is right. There are wolves(Pelosi, et al, Jihadis), sheep(damn near everyone else) and us (sheepdogs). Now who do you think is going to win this fight in Congress? The wolves? Fuck no.They’re going to eat shit just like they did on immigration.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:38 pmSkip1
Gee, and I thought there was no proof that if we give up on Iraq that the Jihadis would not follow us into other places and continue their Jihad against us? At least that’s what the libtards say?
You have succictly summed up the Jihadi strategy for world conquest and the mindset behind it.
If you get some time to kill, read “The Legacy of Jihad:
Islamic Holy War And The Fate of Non-Muslims”.
Nice post.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:45 pmWhen, in the name of all that’s holy, is Alberto Gonzalez going to grow a pair and file treason charges against the entire democRat leadership? Clearly, if ever there was a case for treason, we have it every day in the media every time one of these appeaser-losers opens his/her mouth. And when is the NYTime going to be charged with treason for outing the NSA foreign wiretap program and the SWIFT program for tracking terrorist money? Who cut off the administration’s cajones????? Does Hillary have them in her testicle lock-box? I feel like cursing.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:55 pmJarhead68
re Gonzalez, why do you think they are on the attack against him? it is a preemptive strike, if Gonzalez goes after those treasonous fucks they then can scream to the media that it is a baseless attack in response for their calls for him to be sacked, it will be framed as just another purely political move, like the dismissal of the justices from earlier this year.
June 29th, 2007 at 2:33 pmThe d’rats (and Lugar and Voinovich )are not stupid, just leaches with the morality of a crack whore
murtha gave up the “eagle globe and anchor” for the ass,,,he doesnt have the guts to face any young MARINE now,,, i got an email fm my son in ramadi and he says the sunnis are taking pride in their city and cleaning and fixing and believing in the MARINES are there for them,,, it is not an occupation as the the dan rather press would have u believe, semper fi,, jarhead67
June 29th, 2007 at 3:01 pmCould Reid and Pelosi be anymore transparent? The assessment isn’t due until the fall, yet these two hacks want to call it a failure now. Now if the surge wasn’t going so well, this wouldn’t be happening. They have to stop this now before things get any better. If the surge is successful, that spells disaster for them.
June 30th, 2007 at 5:40 amEveryone know that diplomacy works better than war. if bush just gave saddam 2 or 3 more years(to add to the previous 12) he probably would have come around.
Just say I believe I believe
June 30th, 2007 at 8:21 amDid somebody mention the fairness doctrine? If not for the Demedia, Pelosi and these moonbats would still be harmlessly twirling at a Dead concert. We aren’t going to get rid of the latter until we change the former. The more we change the media, the more Pat Dollards we get.
June 30th, 2007 at 10:09 amDemedia + Democrats = Culture of Coercion
I said to my boyfriend (a Desert Storm vet) few months ago that I always wondered what it was like to be a normal troop supporting American during the Vietnam war. And now I know. It is REALLY frustrating. That war was lost by the media and the counterculture, as this war will also be if the American people don’t stand up and say ENOUGH of the bullsh*t.
I have a friend who is in the Guards, he’s been to Iraq, and said he hopes to go back. These men and women believe in what they are doing and so do I.
Let’s put aside for a minute what kind of message the “enlightened” left is giving the Islomofacists by getting on every information outlet and screaming that the war is lost. (IT IS NOT) And think about what kind of message they our sending to our servicemen.
If I could say one thing to Bush, it would be: Untie our troops hands and let them kick some Ali-baba ass.. CHANGE THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT!!!!!
June 30th, 2007 at 12:26 pmI used to write off media bias as just that, some ingrained, unintentional viewpoint that krept into reporting.
June 30th, 2007 at 1:49 pmI don’t think that anymore. I’ve seen enough evidence to convince me that the “bias” IS intentional. They are the enemy.
Luckily, they’ve begun efforts to repeal our first ammendment rights (see Tren Lott’s talk radio “problem”, as well as “Fairness Doctrine”) before they were done repealing our second ammendment rights. Big mistake on their part.
Like Thomas Jefferson said, a revolution every couple hundred years is vital to the maintanence of a healthy democracy.
I don’t want them to force it to come to arms. But I’ve kept mine. Don’t tread on me.
Every American Idol watching and ESPN sport statistic keeping buffoon needs to have their balls cut off right now. They are contaminating the gene pool with shit.
Jak, mine are all loaded and ready to go.
