They spew out lotsa slow neutrons which mess up cells and kill stuff. They don't have a real good shelf life, but wouldn't be a big problem to whomp up in a hurry if needed. But I think the gamers and analysts have concluded that they escalate without providing much serious advantage. But I might be wrong. This is an old debate. It is such a powerful bomb that the people living near the base were warned that it might break windows when it goes off. DOD, never got a chance to test it, because people living nearby said "no". Well, here's a good place to test it. The other characteristics of this bomb, if I remember is the ability to penetrate deep undergound bunkers. This info came from news sources.
