Breaking: Germany Says Taliban Claim Untrue, One Hostage Still Alive

Kabul - One of the German hostages reported to have been killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan remains alive, the German ARD broadcaster said Saturday.
The broadcaster said from its Kabul office that the other hostage had died as a result of extreme heat and illness, but the second was still alive and negotiations for his release were ongoing.
A Taliban spokesman had earlier claimed both engineers had been killed following their kidnap last Wednesday to force a withdrawal of the 3,000 German contingent among the NATO troops in Afghanistan.
