Man Arrested For Throwing Koran In Toilet
Little Green Footballs:
It’s now officially a mindcrime in the United States to violate Islamic law. At Pace University, a man has been arrested and will face “hate crime” charges for throwing a Koran into a toilet, after the university caved in to demands from Muslim students: Hate-crime arrests in Quran desecrations at Pace University.
NEW YORK (AP) _ A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in a toilet at Pace University on two separate occasions, police said.
Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both hate crimes, police said. It was unclear if he was a student at the school. A message left at the Shmulevich home was not immediately returned.
The Islamic holy book was found in a toilet at Pace’s lower Manhattan campus by a teacher on Oct. 13. A student discovered another book in a toilet on Nov. 21, police said.
Muslim activists had called on Pace University to crack down on hate crimes after the incidents. As a result, the university said it would offer sensitivity training to its students.

Wow, what bullshit. If that was the Bible he never would have been arrested.
July 28th, 2007 at 11:29 amIs this not covered under the freedom of speech? Did he hurt someone….NO. So I guess this is another move against our liberties.
July 28th, 2007 at 11:48 amTime to follow the lead?
July 28th, 2007 at 12:01 pmIs this a gauntlet thrown?
Is there a site upon which we can post
our own (tasteful) Koran Swirlies?
LETS SEND THEM TO OUR CONGRESSMEN and SENATORS!
To have a hate crime you need a victim. Are we giving human rights to books now?
This is total political correctness bullshit at its worse.
Take the names of the officials that are promoting this unconstitutional bullshit so when the Islamic facists attack us again we know who to look up and hold responsible for their actions.
July 28th, 2007 at 12:34 pmI guess that means I can’t use my new and improved “Quran Qucik-n-Clean Wipes” made bt Charmin
July 28th, 2007 at 12:54 pmTotal bullshit…I am going to take a dump on mine and post it….
July 28th, 2007 at 12:57 pmYou might be guilty of a thought crime if you started to laugh when you looked at that picture.
If you really need a laugh, and who doesn’t?…..

July 28th, 2007 at 1:05 pmEmail the college they have the website if you click on more on the bottom of the article and look on that page this is ridiculous and should never happen.
July 28th, 2007 at 1:07 pmGreg M, You asked if the guy would have been arrested if he threw a Bible in the toilet and my guess is that he would NOT have. And the reason he wouldn’t have isn’t because of the University, it would be because there wouldn’t be a flood of complaints from Christian students for the School to press charges.
This guy was arrested because the Islamists are all operating under a common strategy to use every option under our governmental system to “protect” their Islamic rights and at the same time, try to create a SPECIAL set of rights for Islam.
My point is this. A Bible is found where this Koran was…Christians students, while upset, are confident and comfortable in their faith and more than likely would pray for the person that did it..and that’s it. A Koran is found in the toilet and the Muslims students, uncomfortable in their faith and faithfully following the islamofascist agenda of a takeover of American society, seize the opportunity to force their agenda.
Christians students are basing their non-reaction on a religion of forgiveness. Muslim students are basing their reaction and hysteria on a political ideology that allows NO infringement on it’s philosophies and rules.
I’m sure the ACLU will flock to the arrested man’s aide to beat this infringement of free speech. Right?
July 28th, 2007 at 1:13 pmThis certainly gives the term “book em’” a new meaning.
July 28th, 2007 at 1:16 pmHow ironic - A book that is indisputably the primary lever in inciting people to commit wanton murder on millions of innocents has achieved the status of “victim” of hate crimes.
I see Koran’s appearing in public toilets all over the country.
July 28th, 2007 at 1:44 pmwhere can we get a case of korans
July 28th, 2007 at 2:41 pmGerman Who Created Koran Toilet Paper Convicted by Jim Kouri - A German citizen was convicted of insulting the Islamic holy book by printing the word “Koran” repeatedly along toilet paper. The man ended up with a suspended sentence of one year in prison and was ordered to perform 300 hours of community service.

WOW so assholes in this country can burn the American flag and wipe with the bible and get nothing, but when someone does something to a Koran its a hate crime? this is complete bullshit! I hope everyone causes hell until all charges from this are dropped and he gets a formal apology..We cannot cave into this shit in this country, we are fighting them abroad but submitting to them here in our own country
July 28th, 2007 at 2:49 pmGood thing he didn’t wipe his ass with it. They would have to behead him.
July 28th, 2007 at 3:04 pmWhat a great picture. The Koran floating in a shit bowl.
July 28th, 2007 at 3:17 pmOnly one thing wrong with this story, the asshole that OWNED the Koran wasn’t attached TO it…
July 28th, 2007 at 3:52 pmThe unindicted co-conspirators of CAIR are, of course, involved.
July 28th, 2007 at 3:55 pmDidn’t a publicly funded museum in NY display a portrait of the Virgin Mary made out of cow shit? No law enforcement, and the libs screamed bloody murder when Giuliani threatened to pull public funding. Why wasn’t the Left concerned about Christian gallery employees being subjected to a “hostile working environment”? Why wasn’t the Left concerned about the taxpayers who funded the galler being subjected to a “hostile public environment”?
July 28th, 2007 at 4:38 pmWhy is everyone caving in to fricking Muslims??? I’m getting more pissed-off each time I hear about incidents like this!
July 28th, 2007 at 5:33 pmThe peoples cube story still has me,but if this is real ,what next?
July 28th, 2007 at 5:45 pmSee…finally the Muslims living in the land of the Free take a stand and find their voice to express their outrage!!! Too bad it’s over a book and not the sensless slaughter of their own people (and ours) at the hands of extremists.
July 28th, 2007 at 7:17 pmFire, Fire, Fire

I remember this well. It really is sick that any other religion just has to suck it up and take it - but if it affects a Muslim then it is a hate crime. Interesting . . .
July 28th, 2007 at 8:11 pmFight4TheRight
Thank you for pointing out the differences of the reactions of Christians and Muslims:
“Christian students are basing their non-reaction on a religion of forgiveness. Muslim students are basing their reaction and hysteria on a political ideology that allows NO infringement on it’s philosophies and rules.”
It is at that point that in my opinion, any Muslim that cannot handle living in a free society should leave and go back to living in a society that has no separation of church and state - a place of religious rule - they should not be allowed to impose their standards on a free society when the rest of us, unless directly harmed, are told to deal with it because “nobody got hurt”.
I guess if this was a display in an art gallery then it would be considered “a work of art” protected by freedom of expression - but since it is not it is then a hate crime… logical. Gets better every day.
Maybe there should be “sensitivity training” that teaches Muslims about what it means to live in a free society and to stop making such a fuss about things all other religions have been told to ignore no matter how offensive it is to them.
July 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pmWait a minute, 21 November is my birthday. You’re telling me we can’t celebrate my birthday any way we want? I’m going to be 60 on my next birthday, wait ’til you see what we have in store. These jailhouse moe slums we have in Philadelphia with their little koranimal koloring books under their arms written in Arabic. They can barely speak English and they’ll try to lead us to believe they can read a foreign language. Yea, right. islamic scholars(?) impossible.
July 28th, 2007 at 9:43 pmHhahahahahhahhaha. And they have foot washing basins at George Mason University for muslim students. hahahahaha now this is hilarious. Whats next can i get in trouble for using Alahs name in vain?
July 28th, 2007 at 10:16 pmIt’s finally a hate crime, I hope he meets up with Buba.
July 28th, 2007 at 10:54 pmthe morality of the board of governers at Pace Uni has descended to a new low.
July 29th, 2007 at 4:11 amThey have decided that this expression of freedom is a hate crime AFTER being pressured by CAIR and other hate groups.
I have no doubt that the communications were filled with mass threats against that august(chickenshit)body and they caved in like all good lib/academic wankers do.
Where is the outrage from the ACLU or are they only interested in persecuting americans who want to react against the religion of hate.
Where is the outrage from the left,or the middle liberals?
Is it to be left only to the conservatives, the Canadians, and we Aussies to decry this abomination of a ruling?
Probably so, as the left, from what I can see, and not only on this site (BTW pat GREAT improvement), but on many other sites, (not all RIGHT WING DEATHBEAST sites either)have caved in to the extremist left, the islamists and the defeatist.
The US academia and the univerity governing councils should hang their heads in shame, except maybe for colorado where they had the balls to expell churchill the plagarist, who is a hard left(communist),now expelled professor. to them to the rest.
Seventy odd years ago Hitler order his Gestapo thugs to burn any books that don’t reflect the 3rd Reich views. But he made sure that his book “Mien Kemp” was protected by Nazi law that you damage or desecrated the bastard book you will go to Jail!
July 29th, 2007 at 5:09 amNow the Islamic fascists wants their BASTARD KORAN protected by law. But the bastards Islamic Fascists can BURN OUR BIBLES AND YOUR GREAT NATION FLAG AND CALLED THAT FREE SPEECH!! WE ARE A NATION OF WIMPS and we BETTER WAKE UP!
You can keep up with this trend and complain if it happens in your area by going to: http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/
Some schools have already reversed their policies in favor of the majority. Such as San Diego schools.
Accomidation for one religion doesn’t jive with Federal law. If you give Muslims special consideration, a school has to do the same for all religions.
Try defending the current Pace policies in court. Love to see someone raise a constitutional challenge….cause Pace would lose.

July 29th, 2007 at 8:09 amRequired to attend sensitivity training, eh?
July 29th, 2007 at 8:12 amAre those classes pass/fail, or do you get graded?
Personally, I think he should have been charged with an eco-crime, instead. That was some excellent toilet paper he misused.
We just installed one of those new super-flush toilets by Kohler … You know, the one in the recent TV commercials where the wife catches the husband flushing everything he can get his hands on … even emptying a bag of dog food down it? Yeah, “that book” would go down in NO TIME!
July 29th, 2007 at 8:32 amIt’s a floater! I wonder if it smells?
July 29th, 2007 at 8:55 amThat’s why the law of “hate crimes” is so stupid. What difference does it make in the kind of intent you have when you commit an intentional crime. All the label “hate crime” does is criminalize uncriminal behavior–like throwing a bunch of paper in a toilet.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:34 amThe criminal mischief charge cd legitimately be brought as related to clogging the toilet. I mean, deliberately clogging up toilets is an old frat-type of vandalism, and it is not without some cost to the university.
But harassment? Who’s being harassed? How?
But we all need to calm down. All will be well. I’m sure that, even as we speak, the ACLU is preparing a monster free-speech brief to defend Mr. Shmulevitch.
Right?
Seriously, as a defense attorney, I’d jump to try this “hate-crime” case, pro bono. I’m sure Mr. Shmulevitch will have no problem obtaining counsel. There are at least 20 ways you cd make the prosecution look like idiots in court. And the PR would be gold, Jerry, GOLD!!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:59 amThis is completely ridiculous. No crime, no time IMO! I’m confused… a person can burn the American flag inside a friggin’ building and nothing. Yet, you throw the Koran in a toilet and it is a crime. Will the charges stick is the question?
The only hatin’ I see is the fact that SOB will never flush down. Therefore, some poor janitor will, not only, have to touch that filthy excuse for a book, they will have to touch it after it has been in a public crapper. Nice!
Sensitivity training…. yeah, we had some of that at work. I got paid to be there, that’s about all there is to say about that.
July 29th, 2007 at 12:15 pmWhile I am not comfortable flushing any holy book down the toliet out of respect, I do not think it should have been a federal crime. I think it should have been handled as a vandalism case. I do agree that the reactions of Christians and Muslims would probably be different, especially if this had happend in a Muslim country.
July 29th, 2007 at 5:02 pm[…] appears that a gentleman was arrested on Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in the … […]
July 29th, 2007 at 7:26 pmHad he been putting the Coran to good use by wiping his backside with pages of it would that have been a hate crime too?
July 30th, 2007 at 6:01 pmIn Saudi Arabia, you can be arrested and deported from carrying in a bible and the bible will be tossed into the trash, so I have no sympathy for these Muslim students on this issue. Last time I check, I’m still living in the USA and not Iran nor Saudi Arabia
Muslims are going to use our freedoms against us until we have no freedoms left to speak of and there’s a Cresent moon on our flag in place of the stars.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:58 amWow! I’m glad I saw this article. I was going to barbeque pork over a pile of smoldering Qurans this weekend. I think I’ll switch to steak instead!
August 1st, 2007 at 9:59 amI’m sending CAIR a Crap covered Quran….wraped in bacon and porn…..
