Chertoff Continues To Deny Any Knowledge Of A Specific “Spectacular” Attack Despite ABC’S Claim Of Secret Memo To That Effect
He gave the denial on Fox & Friends this morning.
“We have seen an increase in the number of public statements by Al Qaeda leaders. We are concerned that the last two Summers in a row there have been attacks. Right now we don’t have specific information about an attack.”
“We have an increasing concern about people who might have been trained in Pakistan and then might be travelling to Europe.”
“I’m concerned about losing the tools we use every single day to catch….. these kind of people. We’ve got to obey the laws, but we’ve got to be able to move quickly.”
Blotter story.
“we don’t have specific information”
the use of the word ’specific’ in that phrase should raise the hair on the back of your neck
we had non specific intel leading up to 9/11
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:32 amYou know, the homeland security is in the hands of someone who cannot even get the time to have a shave.God help the US if lazy buggers are in charge of the powderkeg. He is “CONCERNED”, CHRIST EVERYONE ELSE IS ALMOST PETRIFIED WITH FEAR. Give the prick a shaft back to some academic wonderland and get someone with some balls who can read a dispatch and send the relevent shit off to the limeys when needed instead of saying they did it. I reckon that Ollie North would be just the person you guys need. Fuck the laws, get the bastards responsible for terror or drugs and treat them that same way they would treat you. Vicious, and nasty, then leave the best for the ACLU and the lawyers that float to the top of the pond scum and REALLY torture them. The time for pussy footing has got to stop. Get a pair you in the US. Give them what they would give you. And do it RIGHT NOW.
July 2nd, 2007 at 3:55 amjust a thought from an aussie
I’m giving the benefit of the doubt. They’re all over ‘it’, but then there’s always the one that get through. I hate that when that happens.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:24 amDid anyone see Chris Wallace try to pin Chertoff down on introducing legislation that would give him the tools that were “left on the senate floor”? In other words, an immigration bill without amnesty.
Chertoff wouldn’t commit so now I don’t really want to hear him whine about tools he needs.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:21 amI’m no fan of Chertoff but if ABC is the source of information, I’d be very suspecious and would tend to believe him this time.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:23 amI wonder if these ham handed attempts in Britain are a tactic to focus our intelligence sources on a decoy
07/07/07 is Saturday, and these animals seem fascinated by unique calendar dates
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:26 amYou know, I hate to pile on (it’s so European …) But there was always just something about Chertoff I never … um, not sure it’s trusted … as much as never felt real confidence in. I always thought Giuliani should have been put in that seat.
It’s pretty damn scary if those who are in the direct position to protect us (and our friends) have gotten lazy and complacent.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:27 amChertoff is such a disappointment. God, he’s such as pus.
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:44 amABC does get some good intel out at times, they will frame it to their own agenda though.
They were the only MSM media outlet to show tapes of Saddams’ cabinet meetings discussing wmd attacks on the United States. Only one night though, and no follow up on that story that I ever saw.
“non-specific”
July 2nd, 2007 at 5:56 amafter the hit we will hear the phrase “actionable intelligence” and the our lack of it
not hating on Chertoff, just dealing with the reality of a non uniformed enemy not concerned with sustaining their own life as they look to slaughter civilians in imaginative and simple means
July 2nd, 2007 at 6:13 amChertoff is an elitist snob, and should be returned to his judgeship that he left for this job, but this time he should take Judge Wapner’s People’s Court.
He always seems so put out over what is essentially his department’s responsibility which is securing the “homeland”. When the amnesty failed to pass, he was on the stump humming and hawing over ‘yeah well if we must we’ll do the job of enforcing the laws on the books’ like some spoiled kid. Not the type of “motivated go-getter” needed to do the job.
The writing is on the wall something is going down. I would love to have my head buried up my ass in the Utopian style Chertoff and his ilk, but I don’t like the smell of shit!
I’m tired of reaction, its time to be proactive. I can understand the need for not inciting panic in the general public, but this clown is being so dismissive as if no one can penetrate “Fortress America”. Fool!
July 2nd, 2007 at 7:43 amWe’ve gotten more respect from one-night stands than we got from Chertoff yesterday.
July 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 amEver the bureaucrat, more interested in the new building w/its cushy office than the security of the folks who pay the bill (and a dear price it is).
They (he and W) have broken my heart.
I am also very mindful of 07/07/07.
Something is defintely up in muzzieland.
When Chertoff was nominated, I thought it best to give him the benefit of the doubt. But now that I’ve learned that he is:
1) a lawyer,
2) a long-time Washington bureaucrat, and
3) a lawyer,
I realized that he is just another disappointment.
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:04 amWe are about due for an attack. I have a bad feeling about 7/4-7/7/07. Hey, Chertoff said he was afraid of losing the “tools” they have to catch terrorists. The reality is that the NSA listens to everyting anyway , they always have (at least I always thought so), so the “warrantless wiretap” outrage is a crock. What the Bush admin did was make it public. Happy Fourth of July–keep your eyes open!
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:31 amJust curious. What is Chertoff’s hands-on experience with bad guys? Are his credentials in law enforcement or military? Who is the highest ranking person in Homeland Security with such credentials?
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:49 amThis has little to do with Chertoff but I thought ya all might like to visit this web site
http://www.globalincidentmap.com/home.php
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:08 amThanks guys, now I am hating on Chertoff, a fucking lawyer, so all his decisions will be framed by possible legal repercussions
Shame Bernard Kerik was not a saint, but then he would not be Benard Kerik
Compare him to Chertoff, who would you want?
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:13 amInohio, that is a cool map! There is no GWOT! It’s a bumper sticker! That was the approach before 9/11–all these events are unrelated/isolated and should be treated like local law enforcement issues. That is what Edwards think we should go back to–it will make us happier! No more fear mongering!
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:17 amActually, Chertoff gave up lifetime tenure in a more prestigious job as a federal judge to be head of HS. I certainly wouldn’t do that. He must have felt called to the job.
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:22 amHow about frrezing that map and making a bumper sticker out of it with the caption “GWOT: Yet a bumper sticker campaign. Brought to you by the makers of Breck hair formula for men….Hi, I’m John Edwards and I approve of this message…..
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:31 amShould read”GWOT yet ANOTHER bumper sticker campaign”
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:53 am“NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — A senior American diplomat missing for four days has been found dead on Cyprus, the U.S. Embassy said Monday.Lt. Col. Thomas Mooney, 45, disappeared with his car, a black Chevrolet Impala, on Thursday. He was found dead in a remote rural area of the Mediterranean island Monday. An official indicated that he committed suicide. A police statement said an autopsy showed Lt. Col. Thomas Mooney bled to death from a cut to the throat. A Cypriot official involved in the autopsy, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said the diplomat “had a wound in the neck which is compatible with self-infliction.”
“There is no evidence of foul play,” the official said.”
There is no GWOT. Yeah, sure, this guy cut his own throat. Sure, I believe it. I wonder if this will get reported in the MSM?
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:44 amYeah I had higher expectations for Chertoff too. Sadly, let down by another bush dumfuk.. living in fantasy land.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:50 pmBut my original point was I have definitely noticed security reconfiguring at the airports and more “thoroughness”–although our airport security is a joke. At first I thought it was union slowdown, but after seeing the stuff in London, etc. I think this is Al-Quiddy’s attempt at being noticed again. Might be time to turn over some more rocks.
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:53 pmChertoff = liar, liar, pants on fire
This is the same asshole decrying the Senate’s inability to pass the Immigration Reform bill. I suggest he eats a couple of Big Mac’s and buys a razor. He looks like a freaking degenerate who stole a nice suit.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:24 pmBaroness, W also has broken my heart. I had such high hopes for him. Now it seems like he is hiding, rather than attacking. This is what the Presidency does to people, it literally ruins them. Makes me very sorry. (Shoulda happened to Gore, he deserves it!!)
