Guantanamo Releasee Blows Himself Up In Pakistan
Pakistani militant wanted for Chinese kidnap blows himself up
One of Pakistan’s top Taliban militants, wanted for the kidnapping of two Chinese engineers in 2004, blew himself up during a clash with security forces, the interior ministry said Tuesday.
Former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Abdullah Mehsud killed himself with a hand grenade after troops raided a hideout in southwestern Baluchistan province late Monday, interior ministry spokesman Brigadier Javed Cheema told AFP.
The Islamic rebel’s death comes amid intensifying US pressure on Musharraf to take military action against Al-Qaeda and Taliban safe havens in the tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.
“Abdullah Mehsud blew himself up with a grenade and died when security forces raided his hideout. Three of his accomplices were arrested,” Cheema said.
Mehsud, 32, became the leader of Pakistani Taliban insurgents based in South Waziristan in 2004, after Pakistani forces launched military operations in the troubled tribal region.
In October 2004, Islamic militants led by Mehsud kidnapped two Chinese engineers working on a multi-million-dollar hydroelectric dam project in the troubled tribal region of South Waziristan.
One of the hostages died in a botched rescue bid in a major embarrassment for Pakistan, which counts China as its closest ally and biggest military supplier.
Mehsud, who spent 25 months in the US-run “war on terror” prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba until his release in March 2004, escaped after the incident.
He had been hunted by Pakistani forces ever since.
“Intelligence reports pointed out his presence at a house and security forces mounted the raid. He sneaked into Zhob from Waziristan,” Cheema said, referring to the Zhob district of Baluchistan province.
Mehsud’s brother, Baitullah, is a leading Taliban commander in Pakistan’s tribal regions who has been linked to a wave of suicide bombings following this month’s deadly army raid on the pro-Taliban Red Mosque in Islamabad.
A good reason why they shouldn’t shut down Guantanamo Bay.

So, these people deserve what kind of rights? Human beings? No they’re not. They deserve death after they take a nice long ride on a waterboard. All this namby-pamby elistist talk about how that is not our way is bullshit. I don’t fucking care what SOF or retired SOF person says that they are against harsh treatment.
These people, when released go back to what they are: savage beats of prey. If a hawk were to try and steal my brand new puppy, I would kill the SOB. And fuck the law.
This is how it should be with these scum.
And PS. Enjoy hell fire dumbass…you’re going to be there a long time….
July 24th, 2007 at 5:43 amClearly it was an accident…we all know that no terrorists are held at Gitmo; just innocent farmers and all around good guys.
He must have been attempting to teach some locals on proper safety when/if you accidentally find some explosive device and it went off…(rolling eyes)
July 24th, 2007 at 6:06 amAccording to Sen. Feingold and his crew, the prisoners at Club Gitmo are only “assistant cooks” and so forth, and were not captured “on the battlefield,” but given up for large bounty payments. What a dupe.
