Osama May Be The Biggest Casualty Of The Red Mosque Insurrection
Against all acceptable rationale, the administration allowed Musharraf to song and dance them into keeping Waziristan off-limits to a sufficiently aggressive pursuit of Bin Laden. The Pakistan/Waziristan treaty, in short, made us rely on the Taliban-allied Waziristan tribes to turn over Bin Laden “if they found him”. But Pakistan and the U.S. had to stay the hell out. Let me get this - we’re supposed to catch Bin Laden, but we can’t go to where he is? Now, the reality is that limited operations have been carried out in Waziristan anyway. But due to the accords they have been limited beyond any remotely acceptable level. The topic is too infuriating to write about any further.
However, we may be at a critical turning point here. Musharraf now has a motivitation he didn’t have at the time he signed the accords: the literal preservation of his ass. He believes that Al Qaeda and associates high-jacked the Red Mosque insurrection in order to whip up Islamist sentiment against his regime. They hoped to create exploitable martyrs and they have - at least to Pakistan’s Jihad-prone. Osama wanted an engine for a true anti-Musharraf insurgency and coup. Now, it’s a risky decision to take on the leader of the country in which you are living. Once you do, it’s do or die. Clearly, Osama has taken a big gamble: he’s openly declared war on Musharraf. And he went as far as he could. Someone tried to shoot down Musharraf’s plane last week. This clearly came as a part of the Red Mosque revolt, directly or indirectly. Musharraf knows that such attacks will continue, either at Osama’s orders, or independently from his sympathizers, especially since Zawahari openly declared war on Musharraf in a videotape yesterday. Such tapes are interpreted by independent true believers to do as they will.
Musharraf can no longer whistle past the graveyard. The undead have jumped from their graves and assaulted him.
The survival instinct is the most powerful of all. Expect dramatic developments in the hunt for Al Qaeda in Pakistan. Otherwise, Musharraf will only see dramatic developments from Al Qaeda in Pakistan.
You’d think they (Osama’s boys) have lit enough fires under Musharraf’s six to get him to do something. Man, how many hints does one need??? Musharraf needs to understand which side of the conflict he’s on and with the “grace of Allah” he comes to his senses and either cleans house or get someone who will. The snake’s been striking at the handler and missing too many times.
July 12th, 2007 at 4:58 amDamn Pat, you must have read my earlier post dude. Although your wordsmything is way better than mine. Great minds…huh?
July 12th, 2007 at 5:12 amInteresting Pat….
July 12th, 2007 at 5:20 amJihadists can wear out a welcome quicker that a fart in a telephone booth.
Maybe there’s hope our self-serving media here in America will get a clue and start tiring of these “misguided muslims” and figure out who the real bad guys are. Of course I thought the demedia might have kind of got a clue a long time ago after the jihadists took out one of the medias own - Daniel Pearl. But no, as usual, they were more interested in another journalist who was too important to stop for a coalition roadblock and “suspiciously” taken out by our guys.
Maybe after Musharraf cleans up Waziristan, he can come over here and clean out the rats in demediastan.
This is a great post Pat. I think you have hit the nail on the head with this one! The survival instict is the most powerful and Musharaff surely knows he is in the fight for his life now. And im making a prediction right now, you clear out Pakistan of all Jihadis and their supporters and this world will be a whole lot safer. God help them if they give the US a green light to that that tribal area, those boys in Afghanistan have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on whoever is hiding there..In it to win it baby!
July 12th, 2007 at 5:25 amMajor action/achievements on this front would take the wind out of the sails of the traitors and quislings in congress at a very critical time. A huge bonus.
July 12th, 2007 at 5:40 amI totally agree Doc Salty. Musharraf should have been trying for that sumbitch years ago!!! Now’s the time. Osama your days are numbered jerk!!!
July 12th, 2007 at 9:05 amI dunno about Musharraf…The guy has had, what, 6-7 serious asassination attemts since 2001, yet he’s always ended up caving on the “frontier districts”…
It may be that he had/has no real ability to pacify these primitive, desolate zones, short of Carthage-style assault…And no-one likes to do that in their own country (except the likes of Saddam). Didn’t Mush. lose about 2,000 soldiers there just last year? And still didn’t crush the tribes?
In my view, his only hope is to open it as a free-fire zone to US forces, who took about 6 weeks to crush the “unbeatable” Taliban… And I have a strong suspicion they will “coincidentally” come up w/the top AQ nucleus when they burn out those rats.
“EVERYBODY WINS!”

July 12th, 2007 at 10:12 amLet us all hope that Musharraf gets Usama and the rest of the Taliban before the bad guys murder him. If Musharref gets whacked, we are all in major league trouble.
July 12th, 2007 at 12:16 pmmusharaf needs to continue to bitch slap the jiahdi’s back to their caves for good!
July 12th, 2007 at 4:42 pmSounds like a win-win to me.
Musharraf now has his own hide in the game. If he gets them, we win. If they get him, all bets are off in the Waziristan and we will no doubt go in and win.
Let the ass whooping begin. The sooner the better.
