Press TV:

Iraqi police and residents have clashed with al-Qaeda gunmen northeast of Baghdad, leaving 14 terrorists killed, police say.

The battle began early Wednesday after mortar rounds fell on Buhriz, a suburb of Baqouba, some 60 kilometers northeast of the Iraqi capital, a police officer said on condition of anonymity.

Residents and local police amassed at the center of town and took up positions in grassy areas on the edge of Buhriz, battling al-Qaeda attackers for three hours, the officer said.

Another officer, Col. Yahya al-Nidawi, said locals succeeded in fighting off the al-Qaeda attackers.

“With the help of almighty God, the brave residents of Buhriz and our gallant police, we were able to repel and eliminate them (the attackers),” al-Nidawi said.

Good. Keep it up. This is what Iraq needs to do nationwide to be free of AQI. When every town and village reacts like this when threatened by AQI or any other irhabi militia, our job will be done…

This is really good news. When word of this spreads more will be willings to step up.

The US should move to reward the people for doing what is right.

Someone at this site once posted: “I like it, I love it, I want some more of it!” Oh, yeah!

Kick ass work by the local residents of Buhriz and the Iraqi Police Force!!!!! Outstanding results!

This is exactly what they need to do!!! once they get to the point when the residents can souly fight back (like what we see here but on a larger level) than it’ll be amazing how quickly Iraq can rebuild and succeed!

The Mudville Gazette has a link to an article from Stars & Stripes (of all places) about a similar “vigilante action” by the residents of Adhamiyah:

Moral of the story: The Surge Is Working.

TouchStone, trip down memory lane. Haven’t seen a Stars & Stripes since ‘71.

MSM will say it was sectarian violence…

It was, good versus evil, but the MSM doesn’t see it that way.

This is how we’re going to win. Could the grassy area have been described as a knoll?

Baquoba, Fallujah, ooh, I wanna woo ya!
    Way down in Umm Qasr.

Good for them, thats awesome!

The Beach Boys…good stuff. Someone needs to remix that tune and replace the words with Iraqi towns….

“Baquoba, Fallujah, ooh, I wanna woo ya!
    Way down in Umm Qasr.”

Good stuff Kafir. PS welcome to the Infidel club. No cover charge…no muj allowed….unless they’re dead!!! LOL

WOW! This is a major shift from 2 years ago when I was stationed in Baqouba. I never thought I’d see or read about Buhriz citizens striking back like that. The locals, then, were alligned with Al Qaeda. The press is failing to keep such good news out of America. Thanks Pat!
