Fallujah Crackdown
Falluja, Aug 31, (VOI)- Police forces arrested 27 persons in the city of Falluja in the past two days, a police source said on Friday.
“Police forces arrested during the past two days 27 people, suspected of having links to al-Qaeda in Iraq armed group, and they now being interrogated to know about their involvement on the recent attack on the city,” the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“Most of the crackdown operations took place in al-Julan neighborhood, west of Falluja, near to the mosque which witnessed the suicide attack last Monday,” the source also said.
A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body targeting a group of prayers in al-Raqieb mosque in al-Julan neighborhood, killing 11 prayer, including the Imam Sheikh Abdul Sattar al-Jamili, and wounding nine more, as well as causing some damage in the mosque.
Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.
