Border Patrol Kills Smuggler - Mexico Pissed
EL PASO, Texas — A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a suspected smuggler at a fence that separates the U.S. and Mexico after the agent felt threatened by the man, authorities said Thursday.
Mexico criticized what it described as an “excessive use of force” against immigrants and demanded an investigation.
Jose Alejandro Ortiz Castillo, a 23-year-old man who had been caught crossing the border 28 times since 1999, died in Mexico shortly after the Wednesday night shooting, Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said.
An unidentified agent spotted Ortiz apparently leading two men and a woman through a hole in the border fence just east of downtown El Paso. Ortiz, who was carrying bolt cutters, picked up a rock as the agent was arresting the woman, Mosier said.
Mosier said the agent “felt threatened by the actions of the assailant who was holding a rock and bolt cutters.”
The agent fired several shots, hitting Ortiz “multiple times,” Mosier said. It was the agent’s first fatal shooting.
Marco Antonio Torres Moreno — public safety director in Ciudad Juarez, the city across the river from El Paso — said Ortiz was shot once in the chest and once in the right forearm.
The Mexican government demanded in a statement that “all the weight of the law be brought to bear against the person or persons responsible.”
“The Mexican government expresses a firm protest against the use of lethal weapons in the face of situations that do not represent a proportionate risk,” the Foreign Relations Department said.
Ortiz had been deported from the U.S. in 2004, Mosier said.
Jesus Castillo, 43, Ortiz’s brother, initially acknowledged that his brother had worked as an immigrant smuggler. But after speaking to investigators, he said his brother worked in construction and occasionally crossed the border to look for work in El Paso.
“The only thing I know is that they shot him head on, as if he were an animal, and neither Mexican nor American authorities had the courtesy to notify me about it until noon,” Castillo said.
Wednesday night’s shooting is the fifth fatal shooting involving Border Patrol agents in border states this year, federal officials said.

Worked for a smuggler? Good! I hope no harm comes to the boarder agent. May God be with him & his family.
August 10th, 2007 at 8:54 amAt least this time the BP agent shot the bastard DEAD!
“Dead men tell no tales”……..Arrrrr!
August 10th, 2007 at 9:09 amWell, one less problem to worry about.

August 10th, 2007 at 9:23 amNo … You know what, tough fucking shit! He got what he deserved, damn it!
I am so sick of this fucking paradox that is the US/Mexican border. These people COMPLETELY KNOW they are BREAKING OUR LAWS! How the hell many US prisoners do you think are sitting in Mexican prisons for breaking their damn laws? Look up the Mexican Constitution. Their Constitution does not allow the bullshit we have come to accept here in this country where these damn illegals are concerned. You can move to Mexico, take on citizenship … but you still have no rights, the likes of which the fucking democrats in our country are demanding we grant (if they aren’t getting them already) to ILLEGAL ALIENS here. Mexico, in all its feast or famine (resort areas as opposed to typical Mexico residential areas) has stuck by its Constitution to protect its sovereignty. We have a G.D. right and duty to protect ours.
August 10th, 2007 at 9:40 amDon’t bring a rock and wire cutters to a gunfight.
August 10th, 2007 at 9:49 amA few more shootings and maybe they will think twice about breaking our laws.
August 10th, 2007 at 9:58 amBetter yet, how about another punitive expedition into Mexico? They have already invaded us on a daily basis, and we can sack every drug cartel on the way (Libertarians be damned)!
August 10th, 2007 at 10:16 am“The Mexican government expresses a firm protest against the use of lethal weapons in the face of situations that do not represent a proportionate risk,” the Foreign Relations Department said.
Me: Oh yeah everyone loves getting hit in the face with a rock..I would call a rock hurler a proportionate threat. This shit needs to stop and it needs to stop now! If these people so blatantly go toe to toe with an authority figure then why the fuck would they care about what they do to the rest of us? its definitely a national security threat as well as we have seen an economic problem ie; Healthcare and schools
August 10th, 2007 at 10:28 amThis is a sad story. Any of us would have done the same thing as this guy had we not the privilege of being born in the best country ever known to man. The people who are trying to illegally cross our border every day know the risks, and yet they keep on doing it. While it is hard to condone these crossings, it is equally hard to condemn the people doing so, especially when many of us would do the same in order to survive and support a family living in poverty in Mexico. If I was born piss poor in Mexico with no hope in life, I would completely disregard the laws of America to cross and find a better life. If I got deported, I would try again. And again. And again. Do I deserve to be shot for that? I don’t think so. Would it deter me from trying again. I don’t think so.
If he was indeed making threatening gestures towards the arresting officer, then it was justified, if not, then the officer should be punished- simple as that.
August 10th, 2007 at 10:28 amAnd PS: the mexican government being against lethal weapons is like Krispy Kreme donuts being against sugar..Its just bullshit and expect us to treat their people better then they do..better than our own authorities treat us even
August 10th, 2007 at 10:30 amFriggin Mexico. There should be a parade for this guy, instead I am sure he will get thrown on a desk job or even fired for just doing his job.
August 10th, 2007 at 10:41 amFuck Mexico..
Good shot.
August 10th, 2007 at 11:01 amLet me get this straight and I quote — “The Mexican government demanded in a statement that “all the weight of the law be brought to bear against the person or persons responsible.”
It looks to me like the weight of the law was brought against the person responsible…he is now pushing up catcus in deserts of Juarez….
August 10th, 2007 at 11:06 am[…] A illegal immigrant smuggler was just shot dead by a border patrol agent. Is there anyway we can get this same headline in the paper more often? WELL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE LAW BROUGHT DOWN UPON THOSE WHO COME HERE ILLEGALLY, AND KICK THEM THE FUCK OUT. THOSE WHO RESIST CAPTURE AND USE THREATENING FORCE DESERVE WHAT THEY GET. I HOPE YET ANOTHER BOARDER AGENT IS NOT PERSECUTED FOR DOING THEIR JOB.
August 10th, 2007 at 11:27 amHas anyone else heard rumors that the welders on that collapsed bridge were illegals that didn’t know what they were doing?
August 10th, 2007 at 12:00 pm10 bad monkeys. Shoot one, now you have 9 good monkeys. Could be a nice deterent to stay out!
August 10th, 2007 at 12:06 pmJust hope the infamous Johnny Sutton does not have any influence in this part of Texas, or is that Tayhas, or the BP Agent will be looking at a life sentence. Our Congress and Whitehouse need to listen to us the American people instead of the Mexican government or any other country shipping us their down trodden illegally!
August 10th, 2007 at 1:19 pmBP agents are constantly up against illegals who pound their vehicles with rocks and tss rocks and gunfire at the agents. If someone in the streets of NY City or DC attacked a cop with a potentially deadly weapon (heavy rock, stick, bat, etc) that cop would have every right to defend himself/herself.
Fuck Mexico. This shit goes on every fucking day at the border. Illegals are damn lucky the BP’s show such restraint as they normally do. Otherwise there would be a helluva lot more dead illegals.
Oh and how about the Mexican military moving their HUMV’s over the US border, complete with a Mexican soldier manning a loaded .50 cal? This is also a frequent problem. Are we to ignor that and let the Mexicans shoot or threaten (as they do) our BP agents?
Fuck that shit.
We are a sovereign nation, we have every right to defend our borders, and cops have every right to defend themselves.
Anyone who’s got a problem with that is a sugar-coated fucktard.
August 10th, 2007 at 1:20 pmYeah, Eric … sounds great. My Grandparents left Europe in the last Century, for all the reasons (and more) that you just stated … But they took the time and energy to obey United States laws and sovereignty and did it the RIGHT way.
As for Mexico’s pissing in their pants over this, they sure have balls … Have a look at this (feel free to read the whole thing):
MEDIA IGNORES MEXICAN GOV’T. BRUTALITY OF CENTRAL AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS
Jim Kouri, CPP
April 21, 2006
NewsWithViews.com
{…… For instance, in a recent press release the Mexican government slammed Georgia’s new illegal immigration law saying “it a half-measure that discriminates against Mexicans.”
Ruben Aguilar, spokesman for President Vicente Fox, told reporters Tuesday morning that implementing parts of the Georgia law could result in “acts of discrimination” against Mexicans living in Georgia.
“It’s the position of [Fox] that the half-measures in this law are insufficient to resolve the complex phenomenon of immigration between Mexico and the United States,” Aguilar said.
However, Fox and his government appear to be unwilling to acknowledge their own hypocrisy in dealing with illegal immigrants who enter Mexico from Central American countries. Considered felons by the Mexican government, these immigrants fear detention, rape and robbery. Police and soldiers hunt them down at railroads, bus stations and fleabag hotels. Sometimes they are deported; more often officers beat them and simply take their money and possessions.
Besides the news media’s overall silence on illegal immigrants being terrorized, robbed and killed by Mexican authorities, the Bush Administration and US lawmakers are equally silent. They allow Fox and his flunkies to denigrate and scold Americans who call for tougher border security and a sane immigration policy while the blood of Central Americans who’ve entered or attempted to enter Mexico across its southern border stains their own hands.
While illegal immigrants in the United States have held huge rallies in recent weeks, the thousands and thousands of undocumented Central Americans in Mexico endure their inhumane treatment in silent fear. In fact, Mexico’s constitution prohibits non-citizens from participating in protests or other public demonstrations against the Mexican government.
And while President Fox demands humane treatment for his countrymen who break US immigration laws to enter and remain in the US, Mexico provides few if any protections for its own illegal immigrant population.
The level of police brutality Central American illegal immigrants endure in Mexico was apparent Monday, when a police raid near a rail yard outside Mexico City ended in the death of an innocent man. Mexican cops shot and killed a local man, because the poor soul’s appearance made officers think he was an immigrant.
According to the Washington Times, undocumented Central Americans complain much more about how they are treated by Mexican officials than about authorities on the US side of the border, where aliens may resent being caught but often praise the professionalism of the agents scouring the desert for their trail …..}

1917 Constitution of Mexico
(As Amended)
http://www.ilstu.edu/class/hist263/docs/1917const.html
August 10th, 2007 at 4:22 pmThe Mexican Government enables and supports their citizens to leave and work in America and send money back home to aid their economy. It’s not the workers from Mexico, it is the corrupt self serving government officials in charge. What is the Mexican Government doing for their people; it is a disgrace. If we were to sue their government for all our expenses involved with all aspects of illegal immigration it would stop quick; economic sanctions would be interesting to pursue but that would just hurt the people. Emphasis is always on the immigrants not on those who cause their misery; let’s bring the Mexican President to task ;America is only doing what we have a right to do; protect our borders. Where are the Mexican border guards; taking bribes from illegals.

Good shooting Tex,..good shooting !!!!!
….bout time.
August 12th, 2007 at 5:03 pmOne of the bigger things that kills me about this whole immigration movement bullshit is the bullshit argument that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, etc. were somehow “stolen” from Mexico by the big, bad, evil USA. Oh, because, that’s right, Mexico was such a peace loving utopia with the most magnanimous leaders this world has ever seen until we provoked them into finally taking up arms (and, they would have us believe, they did so begrudgingly). GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. Ever heard of the Constitution of 1824??? Where was your fucking peace-loving Mexican Utopia when Santa Anna decided to wipe that Constitution with his ass??? If any nation was ever a war-mongering, land-grabbing nation it was Mexico, and Spain before it. We stole the southwestern states??? Go cry me a river. Apparently history began when Mexico lost their land. Bullshit.
The only thing someone who professes this bullshit can say, while still being honest, is that we won, they lost, and they are bitter about it. And it’s not as if their culture made such a huge impact at the time to even claim that it was a de facto Mexican state. This isn’t the Rhineland. This isn’t Alsace-Lorraine. The culture(s) in these regions, be they American, German, Scandinavian, Irish, American Indian, or anything else, not only rivaled but overpowered the “overwhelming” Mexican influence they claim they had. These regions were more Americanized than angry Mexicans today could ever hope to believe (why do you think Santa Anna rescinded the Constitution of 1824??? Texas was becoming too American and too hard to control under Mexican rule.). Most Mexican culture that is now commonplace in these regions is because of the gracious, freedom-loving culture of the US that embraces other cultures and allows outsiders to practice their customs freely, not because these regions are just “so obviously Mexican”. If Mexico wants to claim these regions as their own, then I suggest they order their “army” to gather both their rifles, get on their squadron of mules, and just try to “take it back”. Otherwise, shut the fuck up, stop taking advantage of a putrid welfare system, and, hey, here’s an idea, maybe try to improve your own damn country instead of holding the US responsible for it being the shithole that it is.
