Taliban Overrun Attack On Anaconda
A group of 75 Taliban militants tried to overrun a U.S.-led coalition base in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, a rare frontal attack that left more than 20 militants dead, the coalition said in a statement.
The insurgents attacked Firebase Anaconda from three sides, using gunfire, grenades and 107 mm rockets, the coalition said. A joint Afghan-U.S. force repelled the attack with mortars, machine guns and air support.
“Almost two dozen insurgents were confirmed killed in the attack,” the statement said. Two girls and two Afghan soldiers were wounded during the fight in Uruzgan province, it said.
A firebase like Anaconda is usually a remote outpost staffed by as few as several dozen soldiers.
“The inability of the insurgent forces to inflict any severe damage on Firebase Anaconda, while being simultaneously decimated in the process, should be a clear indication of the ineffectiveness of their fighters,” said Army Capt. Vanessa R. Bowman, a coalition spokeswoman.
A direct attack on a U.S. or NATO base by insurgents on foot is relatively rare. More often insurgents fire rockets at bases and flee. Military officials say that Taliban fighters know they can’t match Western militaries in a heads-up battle, which leads the insurgents to more often rely on roadside and suicide bombs.

any video? would love to see some new goatfucker snuff films
August 7th, 2007 at 9:22 amI hate to whine, but why weren’t all 75 attackers killed?
August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 amJust asking.
Jam, because war is not a video game. Killing that many people in one engagement is pretty damn impressive, by any standards. Just be glad it went so well.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:46 amMaybe the 72 virgins got word to them that it’s tough doing it with pieces of suicide bombers.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 amNice try you mooj mother fuckers
August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 amWho are the heroes? Notice how the AP doesn’t tell which American military division, platoon etc responded. I guess to the AP American soldiers are just numbers and nothing more.
Can anyone tell me who our glorious warriors are so I can say, “Thanks for doing a job well done by placing your back side in harms way for my children’s future”?
August 7th, 2007 at 10:22 ambecause to kill them all you have to go out from behind the barricades and chase them across open ground, and there are bullets flying at you. Plus many of them were probably a long way back firing rockets and rpg’s, and these likely fled before, or once the air support got there.
We could have killed them all, but not without sustaining our own casualties or civilian casualties. In today’s wars that are fought in the pages of the main stream newspapers, it’s the ratio of enemy kills to your own deaths and civilian deaths that matters, not just the absolute number of enemies killed.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:48 amMakes sense, D_Mac, thanks. I was just being greedy.

In other words…when they try to fight like men - they get smacked down! It is nice to see them come out from behind the burkas, etc. for a change…or is that just AQI that does that?
Godspeed soldiers!
August 7th, 2007 at 12:28 pmHey, another example of “mess with the best, die like the rest” Good shootin’..let’s hope whatever is in the water that they were drinking infects the whole lot and they all start charging!! Open season, no bag limit! OOORah!
August 7th, 2007 at 12:49 pmI love it when they charge. Dirka Dirka motherfuckers.
“Who are the heroes? Notice how the AP doesn’t tell which American military division, platoon etc responded. I guess to the AP American soldiers are just numbers and nothing more.”
You said it.

August 7th, 2007 at 2:06 pmFrom: Mullah Mohammed Omar
To: Taliban militants
Subj: Firebase Anaconda
CC: Osama bin Laden
Hey guys, hope everything is going well. Listen, about the intelligence I gave you on Firebase Anaconda… Umm… really sorry about that. You have to trust me the whole thing looked great on paper. In the future I suggest we refrain from a frontal assault and stick to fighting like girls.
Sorry again,
August 7th, 2007 at 2:38 pmMullah
Another job well done. I’m never surprised by the effectiveness of our soldiers.
August 7th, 2007 at 4:00 pmOmg see what happens when they try to fight real men face-to-face? great job soldiers!
August 7th, 2007 at 4:25 pmSorry Lads if I sound a bit off but, from prior experience a little test like that can give the boys an idea of where the heavies are located/the re-inforce Plt’s area is and a few other points/my call/wait until it gets dark and shuffle all the positions around/and get ready for the follow on probe
August 7th, 2007 at 4:44 pmJam you’ll get to see a bigger head count/sorry no pun intended/LOL
Stay frosty/keep your long knives sharp and don’t give the bastard one single chance.

Sgt. Kelly
August 7th, 2007 at 5:36 pmSgt S Kelly, please apologize to all of the American Girls that are here. I am sure any one of our girls could out fight any Taliban fighter
August 7th, 2007 at 5:58 pmHey John Cunningham haven’t you heard? They have most recently revised the “72 virgins” due to an increasing demand! Now they are serving up 12 Liberals who swear they are virgins!
August 7th, 2007 at 8:24 pmDavid, somebody’s gotta’ take up the slack. Dam lying whores.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:32 amHat’s off to the men at Anaconda. The enemy would rather spend time with his table candy than fight mano a mano. If you’re handing out goodies, he’s your friend. But he hates you. I personally don’t believe Bin Laden is alive, but it doesn’t matter, we have to destroy the enemy.
Hoooah (not ruh)
August 9th, 2007 at 8:00 pmMess:
National Guard, Special Forces and Afghan Army Soldiers.
All in all there were only a few of them
Sorry I won’t give out more info than that
August 10th, 2007 at 2:41 amIn response to Mess:
Can anyone tell me who our glorious warriors are so I can say, “Thanks for doing a job well done by placing your back side in harms way for my children’s future”?
A friend of mine who I just saw this weekend was one of the brave soldiers who was in this attack. He is now home on leave seeing his own child before returning to Afghanistan. The reason you do not know their names and information is because they are Special Forces.
He did his job and because of it was holding his own son for the first time in months. He is a hero and should be recognized for his efforts but at the same time being invisible to the world is how our Special Forces works.
I’ll tell him what you wrote so that he knows people care.
Take Care, God Bless… and keep it up boys!
September 11th, 2007 at 9:12 amTo srichard:
Please tell your buddy that there are a lot of us that know they are still out there and kicking ass so we don’t have to. I personally want to thank him for his brave service and the sacrifice that he is making. I know he sleeps well in the knowledge that no one will ever question his or his comrades bravery. We all support them and love them. God bless.
March 3rd, 2008 at 1:39 pmThe men were from the 2nd Btln of the 503 Infantry Rgmt, 173 Airborne Brigade Combat team. I couldn’t figure out how these there was any situation where we could get overrun at a strongpoint at this point in OEF, or OIF for that matter, but being that the OP was what was penetrated and not the ORP (or whatever was set up), I am at peace and can understand how it. No matter what, God bless the Infantry.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:11 pmOne other point. The press seems to insist on calling a 70 man strongpoint a base, I guess technically its a FOB, but most observers wouldn’t think base when approaching the troops’ position. Two platoons do not establish a base. They essentially strongpoint an area.
