Burke is typical–his main character, Detective Robicheaux is a alcoholic Vietnam Veteran with a violent streak. When people ask Burke if he’s a vet, he keeps his responses to one line. Where was he for Vietnam? Mexico–but his character’s, oh how they often have the sounds of helicopters thropping in their heads and memories of killing women, and children and burning their villages.
The home town went gaga for both.

It took along time for people to get their heads out of their ass.
