Breaking: Anti-Syrian MP Assasinated In Lebanon
Car bomb explodes in Christian eastern part of Lebanese capital of Beirut, killing at least six people, including prominent Christian lawmaker Antoine Ghanem, and wounding four, security sources say
Y-Net:
A prominent anti-Syrian Christian Lebanese lawmaker was killed in a car bomb attack in Beirut on Wednesday that killed six people, security sources said.
The lawmaker, Antoine Ghanem of the Christian Phalange party, appeared to be the main target of the bombing, the sources said.
Television footage showed several cars on fire and bodies being carried away from the scene of a busy commercial and residential area.
“The explosion took place in the Sin el-Fil area near the Metropolitan hotel,” a security source said.
The explosion took place before Lebanon’s parliament is supposed to convene to elect a new president next week. Lebanon has been going through its worst political crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.
Beirut has been hit by a series of bomb attacks in the past 2-1/2 years, many of them aimed at anti-Syrian politicians. Prior to Wednesday’s attack, 7 anti-Syrian political figures had been killed.
In June this year, anti-Syrian lawmaker Walid Eido and 9 other people died in a car bomb attack.
In February 2005, former prime minister Rafik al-Hariri was killed along with 22 other people in a massive car bomb attack.
Hariri’s family says Syria was behind the killing of the former prime minister and later attacks, but Damascus denies this.
Tension has been high in Beirut, where the U.S.-backed government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora is locked in a feud with the opposition led by Shi’ite Hezbollah, backed by Iran and Syria.
Once again, Syria is trying to maintain its tyrannical grip on Lebanon aided of course by the Hizzies in South Lebanon.
Will the Islamophobia never end? (Sarcasm intended)
September 19th, 2007 at 9:33 amThis won’t stop until Lebanon is completely Islamic. The Christians in Lebanon need to wake up before it’s too late. They are being picked off one by one by these terrorist groups. I think if they don’t respond soon it will be too late.
September 19th, 2007 at 10:14 amDoes anyone know anything about the status of Hariri assassination tribunal/investigation?
September 19th, 2007 at 11:10 amAmerica needs to use Lebannon as a lesson learned. A bok, caled Because They Hate was written by a christian woman who grew up in southern Lebannon, and was 13 when the Islamists took over her country, and now look what has become of christians and any other non islam person in that country.
We need to stop being PC and get something done!

Sounds like Brigitte Gabriel’s “Because They Hate”. I read it. The first 180 pages are riveting. Someone should make a movie out of it.

Saw something about awaiting a $35 million funding authorization from the UN to get going. Unsure where that’s at right now. Except that Assad is still sweating bullets — and bombs.
