Katyushas Rain Down On Brits New Base
Basra, Sept 28, (VOI) – The British base at Basra International Airport, 25 km northwest of the city, came under an attack with Katyusha rockets during the early hours of Friday, eyewitnesses said.
“More than 20 Katyushas were fired at the British base at dawn on Friday,” a witness from a residential compound in the airport environs told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“Sirens wailed more than once at the British base,” he said.
The British side could not be contacted immediately to learn whether there were casualties in the attack, the first of its kind after British forces left the former presidential palaces in central Basra last month.
British soldiers are stationed in one base now – the Basra International Airport – after handing over the former presidential palaces, which they took as a military base, to the Iraqi forces.
The British forces in Basra, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, keep 5,500 troops within the Multi-National Forces in Iraq after withdrawing 1,600 soldiers during the past few months.
Britain was the United States’ prime ally in the March 2003 invasion of Iraq.
God protect them. I bet the jihadis think they have the Brits on the run. Brown, don’t do this to your military.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:36 amYou can’t hide from the jihadis by changing locations. This only shows what will happen if we leave Iraq too soon. Wake the fuck up Brown-stain.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:01 amHopefully, the Brits will finally start to expose more and more the influences of Iran in Iraq, especially within the southern provinces. With the advent of Katyushas being used for indirect bombardment of a Coalition base by the Shiite terrorists (I refuse to call them insurgents because of their intentions) in Southern Iraq instead of RPGs and mortars the evidence should be much more conclusive as there is only one place that these rockets originate from.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:38 amIDF attacks are nothing new at Basra airbase,I am not sure why this particular attack is making headlines.
Dan, you are still missing the point about the move to Basra airbase from the Palace. The Palace was militarily indefensible and was selected for use as a base before there were any insurgent attacks in the City. Once those attacks started it made sense to move out of there as they were taking unnecesary casualties. The same job can be done from the air base with a fraction of the problems.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:01 amTheir Cut n Run leaders will be screaming for a quick exit.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:17 amBrown is a coward.
AIR CAV. Ready? Pedator? You’re up!
September 28th, 2007 at 9:54 amI still can’t believe they’ve just moved all their forces into one location. Shit or get off the pot.
What they are doing is madness, these guys are gonna get slaughtered if they just stay buttoned up.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:22 amNot really slaughtered, but you know what I mean. Just plain stupid. Like Brown’s headless chicken.
