Breaking: Maliki: “I Am Going To Replace The Government” - Al Sadr Backs Him
Baghdad, Sept 20, (VOI) - A Sadrist member of parliament said on Thursday that his bloc welcomes Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s new plan to form a mini-cabinet of technocrats to replace his national government.
“We welcome the al-Maliki government’s idea to form a technocrat government as it is the only way to establish a well-based Iraqi state,” Nassar al-Rubaie told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
Al-Maliki proposed on Wednesday forming a mini-cabinet of technocrats to replace his national unity government, calling for granting him more powers to form the mini-cabinet.
In a press conference, Maliki said “We want to form a technocrat government to replace the current government, after many political blocs accepted this idea.”
“We highlight the importance that selecting the minister should not be on partial or factional basis,” the Sadrist MP added.
“We were the first who called to form a government of technocrats. We withdrew from the government to form a technocratic government and we will strongly support any steps in that direction,” the parliamentarian affirmed.
The Sadrist bloc withdrew its six ministers from the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki a few months ago, protesting against al-Maliki’s failure to set a timetable for U.S. withdrawal.
Stratfor:
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced his plans to disband the current government and to form a smaller government of technocrats Sept. 19, to replace the fractured national unity government. He also asked for greater powers to push through nominations. The current government has been gridlocked since the resignation of several ministers.
Mookie is making his play and using al-Maliki as his water-boy.
September 20th, 2007 at 9:15 amIf Mookie likes it, the plan is not good for the US. That is a promise. Can somebody murder or otherwise kill that POS?
September 20th, 2007 at 9:26 amalot of this has to do with the slamming the dummycrats have of the duly elected gov’t of iraq… he has no confidence in the support of the american gov’t.. if the dummycrats win in 09 then the iraq gov’t will be hung out to dry,,,maliki needs the support of someone and he can’t depend on webb/pelosi/reid/murtha to back a free iraq gov’t.. face it kids,,, our gov’t has let the al queda/iran folks win in iraq and we all know it..our sons and daughters have been fed to the wolves by the dummycrats desire to lose under bush ..
September 20th, 2007 at 10:03 amI wonder why Maliki is allowing Iran to take over his government.
September 20th, 2007 at 10:31 amHe is letting Iran take over his government because he is pretty much Iranian. He returned to Iraq after the US went in back in 2003. When he became PM the first act he made as the newly elected leader of Iraq wasn’t to pull his country together, and it wasn’t to organize the paliament. The first act he made as PM was to repay Iran for costs it endured during the Iran Iraq war of the 80s. Nevermind the fact his country is still reeling from that war to this day.
September 20th, 2007 at 10:58 amAllowing exiled figures to run governments is an ignorant idea. This administration learned nothing from the post-Ottoman Empire breakup. I’m tired of D-bags running our wars and government.
September 20th, 2007 at 12:26 pmDoes anyone remember the term, “Islamist State?” Gee….where was al Sadr hiding from US forces a few months ago? Tehran!!!
This is not good news, except for the LIBS!
September 20th, 2007 at 12:53 pmThere must be a typo in this story. Considering the support of Mookie the proper spelling for the type of gov. Mr. Liki-my-tiki looks to install would be THEOCRATIC. He does this, he dissolves this government, this will most likely be seen as the start of not only the “official” civil war in Iraq (West vs. East), but most likely the next Islamic civil war.
For a possible scenario, read this:

Thats not a typo. Technocrat Govt means the cabinet positions be manned by professionals, not politicians.

“Allowing exiled figures to run governments is an ignorant idea. This administration learned nothing from the post-Ottoman Empire breakup. I’m tired of D-bags running our wars and government.”
You must be refering to your fucking Dhimi Congress? No problem. That’ll be fixed in 2008, when we toss out all your moveon.dickhead buddies.
The post-Ottonon breakup? WTF are you talking about? The League Of Nations gave control of the ME to the British and the French. They should have left the ME in control of the Turks. They did a better job.
BTW, the League of Nations was a Democrat’s idea. So, are you blaming the brekup of the post-Ottoman ME on your party? They’re the ones that fucked it up.
September 20th, 2007 at 1:48 pmThat government needs to be more effective for everyones sake. I don’t think this is a power play.
His cabinet members need to be effective leaders and managers for the areas they control. The way that government works the political parties get to pick cabinet members. If Bush was forced to deal with half (or more than half after the last congressional elections) of his cabinet being democrats nothing would get done. And I am talking about things like providing electricity, organizing the troops, and road maintenance.
These cabinet members of Maliki’s are refusing to do their jobs. So Maliki is replacing them with “technocrats” economists and engineers, practical people who will get things done. This is not a power play, but a change to effective people who will do their jobs.
