Boehner: Bring On The Limbaugh Legislation
(CNSNews.com) - House Republicans will rally to radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s defense if Democrats move to consider a resolution that would condemn the conservative icon for using the term “phony soldiers” in a recent broadcast.
“Should House Democrats decide to bring forward a ludicrous resolution condemning Limbaugh, Republicans will take to the floor to set the record straight - and welcome the opportunity to do so,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement Wednesday.
“[P]ardon me if I am not moved to crocodile tears shed by left-wing activists in recent days,” Boehner said, calling the recent kerfuffle a “manufactured controversy.”
On his Sept. 26 show, Limbaugh used the term “phony soldiers” in setting up a story about Jesse Macbeth, a former soldier who was recently sentenced to five months in prison for obtaining veterans’ benefits by falsifying his military records.
Macbeth claimed to have been an Army Ranger with a rank of corporal. He further claimed to have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and became a figure of the anti-war movement when he stated in Internet videos that he witnessed U.S. military atrocities in Iraq. In reality, Macbeth was in the Army only 44 days and never served overseas.
The liberal media group Media Matters for America (which has led a long campaign to have Limbaugh removed from taxpayer-supported Armed Services Radio) accused Limbaugh of referring to all anti-war soldiers as “phony soldiers.”
Limbaugh clarified on his radio show that he was referring specifically to Macbeth and others like him.
On Monday, Rep. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) introduced a House resolution to support the military and condemn Limbaugh’s comments. House Democratic leadership would have to make room for the non-binding resolution on the legislative calendar, if it is to come to a vote.
Politico’s story on the subject:
House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) offered an impassioned defense of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday, stoking the embers of a “controversy” that won’t seem to go away (in large part because we won’t let it).
He even pledges to marshall his members in support of Limbaugh if Democrats bring a measure to the floor condemning his comments about “phony soldiers” that the radio host argues were taken way, way, way out of context.
“All it takes to conclude that this is a manufactured controversy is a simple, cursory review of Mr. Limbaugh’s remarks, so pardon me if I am not moved by the crocodile tears shed by left-wing activists in recent days,” Boehner said in a statement released by his office.
“Moveon.org and its cohorts on and off the Hill would certainly like to change the subject away from the slanderous advertisement they placed in the New York Times about U.S. General David Petraeus, but they are not going to distract anyone with a controversy manufactured out of whole cloth. Frankly, there can be no comparison.
“Limbaugh’s strong support of and charity for U.S. troops is well established and was even recognized by the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Unlike Democratic leaders, Rush’s goal is to boost troop morale, not depress it by stalling the resources troops need to complete their mission. Should House Democrats decide to bring forward a ludicrous resolution condemning Limbaugh, Republicans will take to the floor to set the record straight – and welcome the opportunity to do so.”
A fellow Ohioan, I like Boehner a lot (but he doesn’t represent my district … unfortunately). He’s tough, and a tough voice. But if the republicans, and the country, are to survive this Soviet revolution attempt by the democrats he is going to have to get even tougher and be a true leader that forces his side to get tougher.

October 3rd, 2007 at 4:44 pm…and they Democrats lose again…why, because of their fraudulent claims. They are a DITSY group of campers…they need to step back and shut up …then maybe they can see how ludicrous they look.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:12 pmThe Democrats stand for nothing… never have. Remember, they wanted to surrender to the Confederacy! Their only goal is to tell the rest of us what to do while picking our pockets.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:02 pmMany Democrats are so anti-military it amazes me they’re making a big deal out of this. They’re taking their politics to the U.S. Military and that’s wrong.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:57 pmTYaz: Already did. Felt damn good to vent, too. It’d be nice if someone could figure out a way to get Reid’s treasonous ass out of Washington.

Anybody care to remind Reid what a moron he is?
Why? You think he’s not reminded of it every time he looks in the mirror?
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:25 pm`course, with Reid he probably thinks that’s normal. Hasn’t a clue.
TYaz, I sent this to Reid, “Anyone one in the military or is a veteran understood exactly what Rush meant by what he said, but, since you’re a fucking idiot you wouldn’t understand or know this”. Gee, I didn’t even get a computer generated response.
