JACKSONVILLE, FL — A First Coast mother is accused of pulling a gun at a school bus stop, and pointing it at a group of kids.
Bus 94 had safely dropped off kids after school on Seaboard Road. But that’s when things got dangerous.
The mother of one of the kids had a gun and police say she was pointing it at people.
Authorities said the incident took place at a school bus stop on the Westside.
According to the police report, Briggs brought a gun with her when she met her son at the bus stop.
In the report, witnesses told police Bridges pulled a silver and black gun from under her shirt.
The report states Briggs pointed the gun at other students getting off the bus and said, “Does anyone have something to say?” and “You can all get some of this!”
Briggs’ son was repeatedly being bullied on the school bus and that she wanted to put a stop to the bullying, according to police.
“The thought of going after children with a gun would not cross my mind,” said the father of another child who rides the school bus.
The father asked that his identity not be revealed because he fears retaliation against his son.
Bridges is the mother of a 6th grader at J.E.B. Stuart middle school.
“I think the big problem is bullying, and what this started out as was simple middle-school teasing,” the father said.
However, the teasing has turned into a very real police investigation.
“There is not a reason good enough that you can justify carrying a gun and pulling it out on these school kids,” Jefferson said.

October 5th, 2007 at 10:32 pmThe problem is not the bullying, the problem is the liberals tha teach our kids that it is never ok to fight or hit. My kids have been taught that it isn’t even ok to fight back when you are attacked. I have told all three of my kids that if they or their siblings are being attacked they are to defend each other no matter what.
October 5th, 2007 at 10:37 pmTommy give up on the SNL quotes it never sounds right when you post it!!
October 5th, 2007 at 10:39 pmDo you remember the seen in “Dayzed and Confused” where the kid is running away from the upperclassmen who want to kick his ass and when he gets home the mom pulls out the shotgun and asks if there are any problems? It seemed like it was an ok thing to do in the movie. Maybe that kind of shit was only cool in the 70’s.
October 5th, 2007 at 11:18 pmWell, I’m sure no one will be bullying him anytime soon, but he won’t be getting and friends or girlfriends anytime soon. Buy the kid karate or boxing lessons or something else to stop bullies that won’t permanently ruin his social reputation at school. How does the idea of pulling a gun on a kid ever even come into your mind?
October 5th, 2007 at 11:25 pmI’ve told my kids I have their back if they ever get into a fight, but particularly if they fight back against bullies. I told them it doesn’t matter if the principal yesll or what ever, I’ll be there as quick as possible and deal with the problem and they should not be scared. The judo lessons are coming, bullies beware.

October 6th, 2007 at 1:52 amIt’s sad that it has to come to this, and teaching your kids that it is OK to defend themselves is correct, but when your child is on the recieving end for an extended period of time and often by superior numbers, then what do you do. I’ve seen how useless the school administration usually is in these situations. What do you do when you’ve done everything else???????????
October 6th, 2007 at 7:18 amStart punishing the offenders (yes, and the gun carriers) stop making it so easy for them to repeat the offenses.
And start punishing the parents who teach these kids, or don’t teach them, that it is OK to bully others…
I love guns just as much as the next person, but this is unbelievable. How in the world did that thought come into her mind? Both of my sons are currently experiencing a problem with bullying. Both situations were handled by the school because we got in their asses by using the Student Code of Conduct against them. Never did the use of firearms cross our minds. Yes, our boys were also told to defend themselves should the situation go physical.
October 6th, 2007 at 7:19 amMy youngest son was getting a little bullied in school, (small for his age)during 5th grade, and I told him not to start a fight but finish it. I received a call from his gym teacher, his music teacher and his home room teacher and the bus driver early in the school year regarding my son fighting. The bullying stopped. The gym teacher was even impressed with my son going right into a kid much bigger than him. He was attending a parochial school at the time so we were not subjected to the public school pussification BS.
