Car Bomb Goes Off At Polish Embassy In Baghdad
Less than a week after an assassination attempt on the Polish ambassador. I guess they really want the Poles out of there:
Baghdad, Oct 8, (VOI) - A car bomb detonated on Monday near the Polish embassy in al-Jadiriyah neighborhood, southern Baghdad, a security source said.
“A car bomb, parked near the Polish embassy in Jadiriyah, exploded, this afternoon, killing a civilian and wounding three more,” the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The source, who was unable to verify if any embassy staff sustained injuries, said “the wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital while police sealed off the scene.”
On Wednesday, the Polish ambassador to Iraq General Edward Pietrzyk was injured when an explosive charge went off near his motorcade in central Baghdad, a police source said General Pietrzyk, 57, who was formerly commander of land forces in Poland, was appointed envoy to Iraq in April.
Poland is a U.S. ally in Iraq and 900 Polish soldiers are operating within the Multinational forces in Iraq.
