Basra International Airport Chief Kidnapped
Basra, Oct 9, (VOI) - Unknown gunmen, late on Tuesday, forced the director of Basra international airport at gunpoint to an unknown destination, eyewitnesses said.
“Unknown gunmen kidnapped Abdul Razzaq Qassem, director of Basra airport, late on Tuesday outside his house in the housing compound annexed to the airport,” an eyewitness told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
Another eyewitness said “the gunmen forced Qassem at gunpoint to an unknown destination after they fired at and stopped his car.”
A third witness said that Qassem survived the shooting unharmed but the gunmen forced him out of his car and headed toward an unknown location.
The airport’s housing compound, where the airport staff along with their families reside, is protected by Iraqi police checkpoints.
Iraqi authorities could not be immediately reached for a comment.
Basra, a predominantly Shiite province, is 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
Basra…now there’s a messed up city. Who the freak knows who did this one. Take your best guess. Badr, Pig-Boy, or the Iraniacs?
October 9th, 2007 at 1:32 pmHey, I thought the Brits had the situation at Basra Airport all stabilized…and that was why they’re withdrawing more troops.
