Leftist Abu Ghraib Lawyers Sue Blackwater “On Behalf Of Iraqis”
Anti-American Center For Constitutional Rights liars
Washington Times:
Iraqi families filed a wrongful-death lawsuit yesterday against the private security firm Blackwater, claiming that the security company and its affiliates violated U.S. law in committing “extrajudicial killings and war crimes” in last month’s shootout in Baghdad’s Nisour Square.
Blackwater Chairman and CEO Erik Prince also is named in the suit, which represents the first time Iraqis have taken U.S. legal action against a company working under contract from the U.S. government.
The Center for Constitutional Rights in New York, which also is defending Abu Ghraib prisoners and has a long history of liberal causes, filed the lawsuit in federal district court for the District of Columbia on behalf an injured survivor of the shootout and three families who had members killed, said Susan L. Burke of the Philadelphia law firm Burke O’Neil, who is charged with the case.

Ms. Burke told The Washington Times that the families of the victims contacted two full-time employees working for her legal team in Iraq, which has been representing Abu Ghraib inmates since 2004, and “asked for help.”
“This case came to us through word of mouth — the families and victims approached us,” she said.
Seventeen Iraqis died in the Sept. 16 shootings. Ms. Burke said Blackwater employees were not provoked by the Iraqis on the day of the incident.
“At the moment of this incident, the Blackwater personnel responsible for the shooting were not protecting State Department officials,” she said in a press release. “We look forward to forcing Blackwater and Mr. Prince to tell the world under oath why this attack happened, particularly since a Blackwater guard tried to stop his colleagues from indiscriminately firing.”
The Center for Constitutional Rights, however, has been criticized by many groups for defending the rights of criminals and terrorists since it was co-founded in 1966 by attorneys Morton Stavis, Arthur Kinoy, Ben Smith and William Kunstler.
The organization — which also advocates for open borders — has defended such clients as Tom Hayden, the Black Liberation Movement, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Students for a Democratic Society, the Communist Party and the Black Panther Party, among others.
Matthew Vadum, an analyst with the conservative D.C. think tank Capital Research Center, described the center as an “anti-American” public law firm.
“They are a far-left public-interest law firm,” Mr. Vadum said. “They are so far to the left they make the ACLU look moderate by comparison. They’ve been pursuing an anti-American litigation strategy for decades. They have tried to prevent the U.S. military from deploying abroad in an effort to frustrate American foreign policy.
“It seems to me that wars and military operations should be run by the executive branch — not by unelected officials in black robes,” he said.
Might have known there’d be a Philadelphia lawyer in the group. Perhaps they’ll have to contract with Blackwater for security while they parade around outside the Green Zone. Come to think of it, al-kyda in Iraq will do that for them for free.

BULLSHIT
October 13th, 2007 at 5:42 amInteresting name for a group that obviously does not know much about the Constitution; which by the way DOES NOT extend rights to the world. It only guarantees the rights of Americans. As such, if they really knew their business, they’d be defending Blackwater.
Leftists are such idiots. But they make their little god Marx very proud.

Actually, the Constitution doesn’t just guarantee rights of Americans - it guarantees the rights of anyone on American soil (if we arrested a German tourist visitng New York, he would still have all of the due process rights guaranteed in the Consitution, regardless of the fact that he is not American).

No bud you’re wrong. It does not guarantee the world any rights. Cite me specifics from the Bill of Rights or the Constitution. I got a copy in my hand. I don’t see it. What ammenment. I’m not interested in case law…Show me in the Bill of rights where those rights extend past American citizens.

One more note: President Andrew Jackson said that the “Constitution, which was established for the benefit of our own, not of a foreign people: if in the latter, then, like other citizens or people resident within the limits of the States, they are subject to their jurisdiction and control.”
My other comment hasn’t shown up yet.
