IRGC Boasts “Smart Bombs”
TEHRAN -Commander of the artillery and missile unit of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) ground force said that his troops are using smart ammunition.
Speaking in the northwestern city of Orumieh on Wednesday, Mahmoud Chaharbaghi said that the IRGC ground troops are equipped with smart shells, rockets and missiles.
He pointed out that his troops can now target moving objects, like cars, with high precision by using smart rounds, adding that the defense ministry has taken long strides in designing and manufacturing smart ammunitions.
The military official said that Iran has gained independence in manufacturing military tools and equipment.
Meantime, he said that Iran’s artillery attacks are now guided by computer programs, which he said would prevent errors and mistakes.
“Proper use of arsenals, specially smart ammunition and optical systems as well as the use of well-trained and skillful forces and advanced guidance equipment have increased the level of success of our troops,” the commander concluded.

If their munitions are as smart as their nut-job President, we’ll have nothing to fear!

Haven’t we been doing that since the forties?
October 17th, 2007 at 2:09 pmLike anything, i take this with a grain of salt. Seeing what it has taken to develop, test and implement smart munitions in the United States i can’t see them possessing capabilities even remotely similar to ours. The Army only recently began field testing (to my understanding) GPS guided arty rounds. I don’t want to underestimate our foes here, but if they think we are simply going to pour across the border and allow them to play target practice…they best wake up and smell the coffee.
October 17th, 2007 at 2:10 pmWow! They have “optical guidance systems” on their ammunition, and “computer programs”, even! I hear they’ve even got the internet on computers now!
Whatever. The ayatollah will still look pretty funny with a JDAM sticking out of his ass.
October 17th, 2007 at 2:16 pmWhat the hell were they using before? charts and darts?
No more sliderules? They should be proud.
October 17th, 2007 at 2:20 pmTedders,
for a smiley, you just have to click on the chosen one just above the comment part
as far the iranian “guidance equipment” etc…
seems they got some stuff through Syria
The DTI’s 2001 report states that among we exported to Syria were: ‘toxic chemical precursors’, ‘equipment for the use of military infrared/thermal imaging equipiment’ and ‘military flying helmets’. In 2000 more ‘toxic chemical precursors’ were exported to Syria as well as military helmets and components for military communications.
Similar such equipment was sold to Syria in 1999 and trade secretary Patricia Hewitt has given an ‘open licence’ for the export of ‘equipment for the use of submachine guns, assault rifles and sniper rifles’.

October 17th, 2007 at 2:37 pmLMFAO
The only “Smart Bombs” they have are their suicide bombers with PH D’s. And quite frankly, their not that smart.
October 17th, 2007 at 3:07 pmBut no, they want nukes for peaceful purposes.
October 17th, 2007 at 4:39 pmAhhh, the religion of peace.
somebody should tell them that the first ever computer designed (or one of the first more than just a simple calculator) was developed to calculate for the army on their artillery guns…. lol
