Reid Vows Battle Over New Troop Funding Bill, Redeployment

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Bush administration on Monday asked for an additional $42.3 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing the 2008 request for total war funding to $189.3 billion.

The request comes on top of $147 billion already sought for in the wars. Most of the money goes to Iraq, which is costing the Pentagon an estimated $2 billion a week.

“Parts of this war are complicated, but one part is not — and that is that America should do what it takes to support our troops and protect our people,” President Bush said in an appearance with members of veterans groups at the White House.

Bush said the money will cover basic operating expenses, plus additional armored vehicles and countermeasures designed to protect U.S. troops from roadside bombs.

“Congress should not go home for the holidays while our troops are still waiting for the funds they need,” he said. Watch Bush call on Congress to pass bill »

The president also called on Congress to finish the appropriations bills that fund the Pentagon and Department of Veterans Affairs before lawmakers’ holiday recess, set to begin in mid-November.

Bush’s last supplemental spending request led to a showdown with the Democratic leaders of Congress, who pushed for a withdrawal of American combat troops in 2008 — a demand dropped after the president vetoed the measure.

Minutes after Bush spoke, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, warned the president not to expect Congress to “rubber-stamp” the latest request.

“In the coming weeks, we will hold it up to the light of day and fight for the change of strategy and redeployment of troops that is long overdue,” Reid said.

    And how dare any of the Defeatocrats say this war has lasted longer than WWII. In WWII, the whole team supported winning the war. In this effort, half of the team is pulling in the same direction as the enemy in this hard to win tug-of-war. Between the renegade politicians, the moonbats, and most of the media, I’m surprised our unselfish military has had this much success. It just shows how our military can still succeed even when the country they fight for is not firing on all cylinders.

    Yeah, well, if we’re gonna go ahead and play the WWII game, then let’s go ahead and compare casualties. By the WWII logic, then we should be able to go on with this war without anyone complaining until the casualties get as high as WWII. That should be a few more decades.

    This really burns me up! The writing is on the wall in Iraq, we are winning that conflict. Alot of Generals are even calling Al Qaeda in Iraq crippled. And yet Harry Reid who has no choice but to go for broke now and hope we lose so his party can stay in power. Thats all they want, power and who gives a shit about our troops or whats best for this country. Well i say screw that!

    Oh and Bill O’Reilly predicted tonight that someone is eventually going to get hurt in this country because of how crazy the left has become. That they will intrude on the wrong house or building or church and it will happen. This will eventually hit the street in some form or fashion, thats my prediction. It all comes down to which direction this country is going in and what we’re all willing to do to make it that way

    My rough calculation indicates the whole Iraq war could be replayed about 90 times before casualties would match (in other words, in about three centuries).

    The constitution is not a suicide pact, but the Democrat Party is. Let’s push them off the cliff. It’s no use focusing on Reid, Pelosi, Stark et al. With this website and the people who read it, we can join together and drop some science on that shapeless blob, the American people. The truth, the honor and dignity of men like Michael Murphy will raise up the blob. As it takes a sharper form, it will demand more from it’s representitives. Otherwise, I too see blood running in the streets.

    Firstly, trying to convince people of anything is stupid. They’ll believe what they wanna believe and there’s no use trying to change their minds. Secondly, it’s a little past “demanding more from its representatives” as said representatives clearly do not have the best interests of the country or its people in mind. Thirdly, “Otherwise, I too see blood running in the streets.” I can only pray friend that one day the patriots in America will garner the courage their forefathers had and put bullets to work where the government has failed!

    Right on, Mr. Standfast. If the voters of Nevada aren’t embarrassed, I don’t know why. I have called the little bitch’s office and emailed numerous times, urging him to step down from his leadership post at a minimum, but preferably just resign and shut the fuck up.

    I have called my own state senators and begged them to take action against the little anti-American bitch as well. I believe they put more value on sticking together as senators than as Americans. Pitiful, arrogant bastards.
