Whoa ho ho! I don't watch many Tim Russert interviews. Was Russert trying to be funny or was he actually attacking Colbert? Regardless it doesn't look like he spends much time around people with a sense of humor. I still think Colbert will be the best Democrat on the ballot in SC.

It would appear that Russert isn't exactly "hip" to modern American culture.

Why would anyone even bother attacking Colbert?

Colbert has a brilliant comedic mind, but, like so many people of his ilk, his politics are screwy. He's like a more humerous and intelligent version of John Stewart, but who is in deadpan character most of the time. He uses his Republican schtick to lull conservatives into a false sense of trust, and leads liberals to play the adversarial role, but the result is always to take jabs at conservative principles. It's so candied up that it can be incredibly funny at times.

But, I don't know if I can ever forgive him for his tacky, off-humor press club appearance. When he was laying into the president and trying to be sardonic while making jokes about our soldiers dying, it really infuriated me. I lost most of the respect I had for him at that moment.

Russert was in on the joke. He was playing "straight man." Pretty good interview--he poked and prodded Colbert into saying some funny things.
