Karbala, Oct 23, (VOI) – Deputy governor of Karbala and representative of Shiite leader Moqtada al-Sadr’s movement in the province accused militias, whom he said are working to a foreign agenda, of provoking clashes and destabilizing security in the country.

“Foreign agendas are being implemented in southern Iraqi provinces by militia groups which are backed by the local government to root out Arab origins in Iraq,” Jawad al-Hasnawi told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). By foreign agendas it is known he refers to Iran.

“There is struggle for power in the province and the Sadrist movement is calling for national unity,” al-Hasnawi added.

Renewed clashes between security forces and gunmen broke out in the holy Shiite city of Karbala on Friday evening, with Karbala governor describing the confrontations as an attempt to disturb social security.

According to local police figures, 14 policemen were killed or injured during the clashes. Dozens of gunmen were arrested, large amounts of arms and ammunition were seized and an evening curfew was imposed on the city.

Karbala, believed to house the tomb of Imam al-Hussein Ibn Ali, the prophet Muhammad’s grandson and the 2nd holiest figure for Shiite Muslims after Imam Ali, lies 108 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

A Shiite house divided, cannot stand!

Old Mr. Hays had a shiite house that was overturned every Halloween. So, it appears you are accurate.

Mr. Hays discouraged the shiite house dumpers one year by simply moving the little structure, adorned with cresent moon, forward about four feet. The dumpers were easily identified by anyone with a sense of smell.
