USS Ronald Reagan Crew Takes In Fire Evacuees
The USS Ronald Reagan.
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — More than 100 single sailors with the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan traded their shore-side barracks for ship berthing to make some room for fellow sailors and Navy families who have had to evacuate because of the wildfires burning in the San Diego region.
About 135 sailors or their families assigned to the nuclear-powered carrier were directly affected by the ongoing wildfires, Lt. Ron Flanders, Ronald Reagan’s public affairs officer, said Tuesday morning, where the ship was operating with duty sections only.
As of Tuesday morning, 22 families have settled into the barracks space in Building 783 at North Island Naval Air Station, and more were expected throughout the day, Flanders said. “We have evacuated our barracks. They have returned to the ship so they can free up rooms for the families,” he said. “Our number one priority is our sailors and their families.”

Great story.
October 25th, 2007 at 11:27 amAND great pic.
It is a shame that the media give so much time to a few whiners and none to stories like this that show what the majority of people and survice members of this country are made of.
Thank you!
October 25th, 2007 at 12:25 pmI hope they show gratitude towards those Sailors and Marines on the Reagan. The international community mocked us for sending in a carrier after the 2004 Tsunami, yet they quickly shut up when the facts of the carrier were revealed. Few other vessels on the planet can serve as a command center, water treatment facility, hospital, and airport at once.
