60 Minutes Says US Military As Bad As Taliban
I was infuriated when I read this story…I am sick and tired of the MSM… ~Bash
From Sunday’s show:
…”The enemy has killed hundreds of civilians this year, but surprisingly, almost the same number of civilians have been killed by American and allied forces.” …
Pelley focused on U.S. air strikes citing a statistic from the liberal group Human Rights Watch: “So far this year, 17 air strikes have killed more than 270 civilians, according to the humanitarian organization Human Rights Watch.”
In a segment on Sunday’s “60 Minutes,” anchor Scott Pelley introduced the segment by exclaiming that:
It’s been six years since the liberation of Afghanistan, but the fighting there now is the greatest it’s been since the start of the war, and more civilians are dying…With relatively few troops on the ground, the U.S. And NATO rely on air power, and civilian deaths from air strikes have doubled. Now, there’s concern that those deaths are undermining Afghan support for the war.
Of course framing the story in this way followed the typical mainstream media template of suggesting that the war in Iraq has diverted resources from where they are needed and that U.S. actions are a cause of anti-Americanism throughout the world.
Pelley went on to describe one particular U.S. air strike that resulted in the deaths of nine Afghan civilians and a young boy who was the sole survivor:
There were no enemy combatants. It was four generations of one family, all killed in the air strike: An 85-year-old man, four women and four children, ranging in age from five years to seven months. One boy survived. The night of the bombing, seven-year-old Mujib happened to be staying with his uncle, Gulam Nabi.
Of course, Pelley made only brief mention of the fact that the father of this family was a suspected Taliban leader that U.S. forces had been searching for.

October 29th, 2007 at 6:31 pmTOO BAD ONE OF THEM 2,000 POUNDERS DIDN’T HIT HIS SET..
October 29th, 2007 at 7:03 pmWOW… I can’t believe that 60 Minutes would do a story about this.
I mean 60 Minutes and CBS (Commies Broadcasting Shit) the fine network that brought us Dan Rather, Katie Couric, Andy Rooney and that worthless shit heal Walter Cronkite… Is he dead yet, I hope so.
You must wonder why they are in last place in the ratings. It’s because they are America’s Al-Jezra
October 29th, 2007 at 7:36 pmWhen the enemy hides behind civilians, we will end up unintentionally killing any civilians in the vicinity.
Of course, these same CBS maggots would argue against the poor guy who is supposed to pull the trigger on bin Laden and hesitates when he sees a few dozen civilians in the vicinity of the target.
October 29th, 2007 at 7:48 pmExcuse me ma’am, could you step aside? I have to shoot the person behind you. I watched all of 60 Minutes because I wanted to see the French President walk out on what’s her name. They ran this story first, I had to sit through the whole dam thing before they got to the good part. Lesley Stahl, that’s her name. You should have seen the look on her face.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:24 pmI watched this story and you exaggerated the bias. The show did stress the fact that there was a Taliban leader believed to have gone into the house. When they bombed the house there was no Taliban to be found. It was also pointed out the US military had raided the village days before. The story also told about mortar rounds believed to be originating from the village. There was no doubt from the story that some in the village were hostiles. The reality is our assets in the country are limited and if we had ample forces we would have sent in helicopter borne troops at the location upon receiving rounds from mortars. In the absence of urban centers like in Iraq, cordoning off the area, surrounding it and neutralizing the bad guys would be a relatively easy endeavor. Dropping a bomb on a house in a village is the easy way out and will result in civilian casualties. The media, either liberal or conservative does not cover Afghanistan to the extent it should.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:29 pmCBS news are a bunch of losers that all think the same, who needs them. Although, I can’t wait to see Katie “gutter ratings” Couric wear her black funeral suit when the Republicans win the Presidency again 08.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:33 pmThere is a huge difference between accidental deaths and pre-meditated attacks against civilians. The US military is not there to hunt down civilians. Yes, there will be accidental deaths. There will also be false reports that Americans killed civilians and there will be terrorists who use civilians as shields.
The Taliban and other terrorists target civilians to further their goals of spreading their law and fear. They do not care if a couple hundred are killed to hurt the Americans.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:50 pmKippie, so knowledgeable, I elect you NATO commander in Afghanistan.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:53 pmThat the Lib brain can’t comprehend the bias of CBS is not evidence against its existence and not surprising.
“In the absence of urban centers like in Iraq, cordoning off the area, surrounding it and neutralizing the bad guys would be a relatively easy endeavor.”
Theorizing about proper military action when you weren’t there as well as sucking down the news spooge of CBS are both proper ‘pass times’ for the lib brain however.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:55 pmhey kipp— how many military were in the towers?
October 29th, 2007 at 9:00 pm“TOO BAD ONE OF THEM 2,000 POUNDERS DIDN’T HIT HIS SET..”
Dad 3/7 …LOL
For the little I watched Kipp’s post was more to the truth…I didn’t see a dramatic bias, just some hesitant inuendo
October 29th, 2007 at 9:01 pm” The reality is our assets in the country are limited and if we had ample forces we would have sent in helicopter borne troops at the location upon receiving rounds from mortars. thank you General Kipp for the brilliant assessment of proper military strategy and for ellucidating the great ease we could have taken this target had we the proper equipment or manpower. Unfortunately, helicopter borne troops are more susceptible to RPG’s. you also down play the idea that they were a civilian family with no ties to the taliban. our enemies, dont wear uniforms and live amongst civilians with their families. When civilians die, i blame whole heartedly the the fighters who dont give a damn about them being in harms way in the first place.
Your overly simplistic plan doesnt take into account a desire by our troops to keep military casualities to a minimum in situations that can be resolved by aerial bombardment. also consider the countless proof that our enemies have been known to bring in bodies from other places to display for the “useful idiots” in the media.
Bottom line: who do you trust more? Your own military or the enemy? When a “civilian” claims he has nothing to do with the enemy is he to be automatically believed, as the MSM is known to do? the msm doesnt give our military the benefit of any doubt like they give to those who claim to be “civilians”.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:07 pmTJ(The Kafir), Kippie states it well in telling us he believes everything the enemy says and the United States is lying.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:16 pmJohn, TJ,
Kipp is a fool who’s dislike for his Country is only exceeded by his ignorance of military tactics/affairs. Unable to grasp the gravity of the conflict, he can only wring his hands and blame his defenders, angry at them for being the kind of men, he never was, or ever will be. A pitiful worm the kippshit is.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:33 pmWhile I did not watch the segment, I would not second guess the military, because I was not there. We do not try to hurt civilians, sometimes they are just there.
October 30th, 2007 at 4:14 amVet67,
There was no military in the towers. That is what makes 9-11 so heineous and worthy of retribution. It illustrates my point. Avoid collateral damage whenever possible.
John,
Why would I believe what the enemy is saying? And what do you mean when you say the US is lying? What exactly do you mean when you say the US? The President? Congress? Fox News? Brilliant post!!!!
I know 60 Minutes has a liberal bias and one should always take that into consideration. I also know the military doesn’t target civilians out of hand. But civilians died in the attack. Worthy of a story? There should be far more stories reported on Afghanistan from all angles. The media liberal, conservative and neutral has failed us. They failed in asking important questions in the run up to Iraq and they fail us today in not reporting extensively in Anbar, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Somewhere along the line the media has traded in their souls to report on the celebrity de jour and not on the stories that impact the future of this country.
Finally, I will never fall in line with the right or the left and I will continue to challenge the authorities that run this country. That is true patriotism.
October 30th, 2007 at 8:14 am“Finally, I will never fall in line with the right or the left and I will continue to challenge the authorities that run this country. That is true patriotism.”
LMFAO!!! Maybe it is… but it ain’t YOU!!!
October 30th, 2007 at 9:41 amNo Kipp, you are not a patriot, you are a parrotriat. A rare bird who squawks loudly the rhetoric of the ignorant, and believes itself to be the only free thinker, while sitting in its cage.
October 30th, 2007 at 10:31 amYou say you do not trust the enemy, you do not trust your Governement, you trust only yourself, and the man who only believes himself, has a fool for a guide.
I do not trust my government and I trust others, but even more I trust myself to spell government correctly Pol-ish. Good job, pal. Go back to second grade. It is true, when I’m around you and Sullen I feel like I am the only free thinker in the world. Tweet…tweet. Some day you will step up to the big boys but in the meantime work on your spelling.
October 30th, 2007 at 11:19 amWell Kippo..if the best you can do is attack a typo, then you are a fool indeed. But not much more can be expected from the brain of the limp-wristed bird. In any case you are far better at treason, than reason.
October 30th, 2007 at 2:23 pmPol-ish,
I guess they taught you cheap poetry in 1st grade. …treason than reason?!?!? You used bird, limp-wristed, and a touch of rhyming in your post. You do have the effeminate thing down. How about you say something with substance in this blog without gay undertones?
October 30th, 2007 at 5:46 pmOK, so armchair quarterback Pelly goes and interviews people who were used as human shields by their cowardly relatives/friends/cohorts. Oh, gee, there’s a story. It’s a war, not a police raid. Trying to analyse the blow by blow in this fashion will only highlight the bad, because that’s what is sensational and war is hell. Everyone knows that, or should.
October 30th, 2007 at 9:45 pmI’m just speakin your language nobgobbler. I know it must be uncomfortable for you. In any case, WTF are you talking about, I’ve made my case you’re just blathering. Wipe off your chin and review the above.
