Maliki “Breathes Sigh Of Relief” Over Shiite Peace Pact
Background on the deal which will go a long way to stemming violence in Iraq
Baghdad, Oct 7, (VOI) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki expressed relief over Saturday’s deal signed between Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, the leader of the Shiite Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), and Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr.
“The deal, which came at the right time, expresses a high sense of national responsibility toward the critical circumstances the Iraqi people are going through,” Maliki said in a statement released by his office and received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on Sunday.
Maliki said he welcomed “the deal and any other steps taken by the Iraqi political powers to stem bloodshed, enhance national unity, and spread an atmosphere of endearment among the groups of one people.”
Sadr and Hakim signed a deal to cement relations between the two Shiite mainstreams and set up a joint committee working in Iraqi provinces to control any problems that may potentially arise.
The only way these lads are gonna have peace is if they get rid of that pagan cult called Islam.
Did I just say that?!
