Rebel Kurds Threaten To Blow Up Oil Pipelines To Turkey
Baghdad, Oct 20, (VOI) - The Turkish banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) threatened on Saturday to blow up pipelines carrying Iraqi oil to Turkey, if it is attacked by the Turkish army on the grounds that they provide a resource to the Turkish army.”
“We do not have a specific policy toward the oil pipelines, but we are engaged in a defensive war, and these pipelines provide a resource to the Turkish army,” Abdul Rahman al-Chadrchi, PKK’s foreign relations official, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) over the phone.
Pipelines extend from oil-rich-Kirkuk to carry the Iraqi crude oil via neighboring Turkey to the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.
“It is possible that PKK fighters would blow up the pipelines carrying Iraqi exports of oil in Turkey if we were attacked,” the PKK’s official said.
The Turkish parliament on Wednesday gave a go-ahead mandate for the Turkish government to pursue the Turkish banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) inside Iraqi territories.
The permission was granted after the Turkish government sought a mandate from the parliament to chase the PKK’s fighters inside the Iraqi territories after 13 Turkish soldiers were ambushed by PKK in southeastern Turkey.
Erdogan however, said that the mandate did not mean an imminent incursion into northern Iraq, expressing hope that “the military action be avoided.”
Talk about shooting oneself in the foot, the Kurds better knock it the fuck off.
