This One’s Personal: Dollard Reader’s Son Welcomed Home From Iraq

October 26th, 2007 Posted By The Bashman.

The 551st
Maj. Gen. Eric. T. Olson, left, commander of Combined Joint Task Force - 76, presents Sgt. Daniel McKeehan, 551st Military Police Company, with the Purple Heart for injuries suffered during a security detail in Herat Province.

A big “Welcome Home, and Thank You!” to Steve from NC’s son.

About 150 members of the 551st Military Police Company returned home to Ft. Campbell from Iraq early Monday morning.

Excited families came out to welcome their loved ones at about 2 a.m. The families have been apart for over a year.

Patrick Donovan reunited with his one-year-old daughter Meadow.

He said, “The last time I saw her she was about seven months. Now she’s walking and everything. It’s just great to see my whole family. It’s been a long 14 months, I’m glad to be home.”

At home, the 551st serve as Ft. Campbell’s police force.

Officers patrolled the streets, checked buildings and businesses.

Military police said that during one eight hour shift, Ft. Campbell has as many officers on duty as Oak Grove, Hopkinsville and Clarksville combined.

The military police are also combat ready and provide convoy security and intelligence and handle army prisoners of war.

This was the unit’s fifth overseas deployment since 2001.
