Both the M198 and M777 (using the same tube, M199) are crew loaded and a hell of a lot faster with a compotent crew to fire than a Paladin using the same 199 cannon tube. Sustained rate on paper of four rounds a minute, closer to ten with the Marines of 3/11. Throw in counterbattery radar that can pick up anything larger than a .40 firing and the enemy is already in deep. The radar guys can relay the information back to battery at such a rate that counterbattery fire is in the air before the badguys shots hit the ground. Also the FMF guys I still know consider the missle system another shiny new toy for the MEF commander.
