Eventually, I learned the joys of killing. But I’m skipping ahead of myself. I landed in Iraq in November 2004 armed with a video camera instead of a weapon...

Some of these kids realize it too. I was watching a group of students on C-Span discussing the Iraq war. I was surprised to find many of them who were in support of the GWOT and of the Iraq war.

If you read David Horowitz, he backs up the assertions in this vid. And it is a fact that, being out on your own is way harder than being in college and/or living with mommie.

Many of these kids are going to be in for a tough time when they find out that in the real world. Leftism and narcissism are unwelcome. Hard work and being a self-starter are what employers are looking for. Taking a Zinn or Chompsky view of the world might make you popular in school or get you a job at Berkley, but in the real world, it won't even get your foot in the door. They'll vett you out in the interview process.

The smartest thing a young person can do is shut your mouth, listen more and talk less, learn from people who are smarter than you, keep your nose to the grindstone, work hard, be wiling to sacrifice in the short-term and you'll make it. Nothing that is worth accomplishing comes easy.

@Dan(The Infidel)

[Some of these kids realize it too. I was watching a group of students on C-Span discussing the Iraq war. I was surprised to find many of them who were in support of the GWOT and of the Iraq war.]

* And this is what pisses off the left most of all ... You hear them wondering aloud, and demanding, "Where are the protests on the college campuses?"

--------------------------------------

[If you read David Horowitz, he backs up the assertions in this vid. And it is a fact that, being out on your own is way harder than being in college and/or living with mommie.]

* And I would wager most of the "protesting" mob on the campuses have never REALLY had to actually hold down a self-supporting job ... pay a bill or rent ... pay REAL taxes, not just sales tax, or pay into S.S.

--------------------------------------

[Many of these kids are going to be in for a tough time when they find out that in the real world. Leftism and narcissism are unwelcome. Taking a Zinn or Chompsky view of the world might make you popular in school or get you a job at Berkley, but in the real world, it won’t even get your foot in the door. They’ll vett you out in the interview process.]

* Ask not what the company can do for you ... Ask what YOU can do for the company.

-----------------------------------------

* What!? And squelch all that "progressive creative freedom" ... ?

It is in part, in my opinion, because of the smaller family sizes in recent decades. I am one of six kids. That was not unusual when I was born. Now it is an anomyly for that to happen.

Less siblings, more "you're the most wonderful little baby" kind of parenting and it there is no shock in learning this.

However, we have to point out that all the guys and gals who volunteer for our military show that heroism is not in short order either with their generation. So it cuts both ways. Given the enticements to just cater to one's self, it could be argued that todays vets are in some ways MORE heroic, given that the culture so rewards and condones this point of view.

The main way we could counter this is to simply encourage more community service in school. Make it mandatory.

"I can live my life any way I want to..."

"They go through life expecting things to come easier and end up being disappointed."

"We are all kind of like children..."

Classic lines, really. I think we all went through some sort of "Oh shit, what do I do now?" moment when we realized the apron strings were cut. I was lucky in that there was always an expectation that I would be able to go out on my own, it did a better job of preparing me for reality. You wobble a little at first and then you go and it is real...

The real workers are the real workers in school too, the rest either get over it after a couple years or the balance are just disgruntled for the rest of their lives.

If you think that narcissism is simply a liberal trait you are mistaken. The children of rich parents, most of them conservative, may be the worst. They have everything given to them their whole lives and value trends and appearance over hard work and accomplishment. That knife cuts both ways.
