I think that the car rolled over a thermal / PIR trigger IED, the heat of the engine tripped the ied and the explosion hit the back of the car instead of the passenger compartment as planned

you can see a dark spot on the road right before detonation

we have some system / trigger device that mounts on a pole in front of a humvee to trigger the ied so that the explosion goes off in front of the humvee or under the engine and not the passenger compartment

not sure on the people around it, bty my son took an ied strike like that, they were at high speed and the detonation was at the back of the humvee, not under it so no noteworthy injuries

maybe they got what was coming to them

I have one question..if this was an IED then why the hell was it being tracked by helicopter? would be a strange coincidence..maybe its just me.

Cool a Puzzle! I would say either they were the bait racing toward the ambush site; where they hit the IED OR They were carrying a VBIED and hit a pot hole, But my favorite scenario is that this is a Jihad Research and Development Team!

Your thinking of the Pinto I believe? The Pinto is the reason I’ve always been a fan of the Maverick! However, the vehicle in question does bare a striking resemblance to the Second generation Sunbird/Sunfire:

What? No mandatory seat belt laws in Sharia land? Good thing I guess, instead of having your next snapped flying from the car you could have burned to death…

Yo Johnny,

I think both the Pinto(Ford) and the Gremlin(AMC), along with the Vega, and Pacer were all cars that had a tendency toward exploding gas-tanks upon rear-end collision. I just remember the Gremlin because a neighbor of mine had one while I was growing up.
I can’t tell what the rag-heads in this photo were driving, you probably have it ID’ed.
