The bent metal rod is called “rebar” (ree-bar). A Ka-Bar (kay-bar) is the Marine Corps fighting knife.

You’re right, it was not a Ka Bar, but there was, just recently the story of a soldier who had a knife put in his head, and he survived. He was a patient at that hospital the day before.
