Soldier Reenlists Hours After Serious IED Injury, Two Friends Killed In Blast
Update: Good news. Hours after I posted this, Fox News posted this as well. Still waiting on any other MSM.
4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division PAO
Multi-National Division – North PAO
FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, Iraq – A U.S. Soldier re-enlisted in the Army just hours after being seriously wounded in an improvised explosive attack near Zaganiyah, Iraq, Nov. 13.
Spc. Christopher Hoyt, an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, Wash., suffered severe lacerations to his legs and torso when an IED exploded near him while conducting a dismounted patrol. Two of his fellow Soldiers were killed in the attack.
Hoyt was rushed to the emergency room at Logistics Support Area Anaconda, where he decided to re-enlist for four more years in the Army.
“He said he wasn’t finished,” said Hoyt’s battalion commander Lt. Col. Mark Landes, who re-enlisted the Soldier. “He said, ‘I still have a job to do.’ I’ve never seen the like.”
Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell, the brigade’s top noncommissioned officer, was also on hand for Hoyt’s reenlistment.
“It takes a person of very strong character to go through an incident where another Soldier five feet away was killed and he was severally wounded and still say ‘I believe in what we are doing and I want to stay on the team. I want to support the United States Army and my country.’
“Spc. Hoyt is the epitome of what a Soldier should be,” Troxell continued. “He is a model for what all men and women should be, and that is very patriotic and very selfless.”
Hoyt, whose hometown is Clemente, Calif., is currently recovering in an Army hospital in Germany.
Sounds like he’s almost as brave as the average American liberal.

November 19th, 2007 at 7:25 pmI share Axem’s sentiment exactly. It’s pitiful to contemplate that some of the leaders of our country do not have or recognize the traits and values that are so exemplified by our nation’s military in seeing this fight on terrorism through. The sense of resolve and selflessness of people like Spc. Hoyt and others engaged in this battle will be what preserves our great country (USA). They are the beacon that will overcome the forces of darkness in ISLAM inspite of the selfishness of those in our own government who seek to deny all the convictions our proud military live by. Godspeed to Spc. Hoyt, those like him, and those who came before. We owe them so very much.
November 19th, 2007 at 9:39 pmI don’t know how old this guy is; I’m in my mid 30’s, and I have been hearing nothing but heroic and patriotic acts by alot of these 20 somethings doing tours. God Bless them and their parents for sacrificing what so many choose to take for granted these days. THANK YOU! My kids thank you!
November 19th, 2007 at 9:39 pmIts realy sad that this is the only place that you hear about this. The news only reports about the guys that got killed. Good news is not news that stinks!
November 19th, 2007 at 9:55 pmSpc. Christopher Hoyt is a true american hero to have gone thru the ied that killed his buddies and to reinlist took a kind or courage that is sadly lacking in the population at home who have no idea of sacrifice for the effort to stop the terrorists efforts to bring destruction to the homeland.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:38 amGod Speed Spc Hoyt and all like him who are the bulwark of freedom against the forces of evil.Register to vote for next year and vote the surrender monkeys out.
Sad to see that a texas referendum in Nov 6 got a total of 15 percent out to vote. At least here in aussie where voting is compulsary the turnout is in th 90 percent, yes there are some who coudnt back a horse in a two horse race but at least you have to turn up.and voting is on a saturday, not mid week whene everyone is going to work like in Dallas(TX)
I loved the US while on a 6 week holiday there Im coming back from aussie every year until the place grants me an honorary citizenship and agreen card. Then Ill be happy.
What is it about guys like that that make them be so brave? I truly have nothing but respect for those like him and I wish him well.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:40 amSafe to say that Spc. Hoyt is a stud.
I think there have been times that it would have required massive brain trama for me to re-up too. But I always do because of guys like him.
Thanks to Spc. Hoyt, for keeping the hope alive.
November 20th, 2007 at 5:03 amPS its great to see how far 2ID has come since the 90’s. Those guys are some of the best these days.
