Crackdown On Mahdis Nets 126 “Wanted Men”, “Tons” Of Explosives, Iranian EFPs
Diwaniya, Nov 24, (VOI)- Iraqi security forces arrested 126 wanted men and confiscated dozens of tons of ammunitions, arms and explosives in Diwaniya city, south of Baghdad, over a week of Lion’s Leap security plan, an Iraqi military commander said.
“The forces implementing the Lion’s Leap in Diwaniya city have arrested 126 wanted men and confiscated dozens of tons of ammunitions, explosives and arms over the last week,” Major General Othman al-Ghanmi, Iraqi army’s 8th Division commander, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
General al-Ghanmi added “the real threat to our troops was the explosive charges that killed many of our men. Our troops have been provided with new equipment to detect explosive devices and thus these bombs have become under control.”
The Iraqi army commander who did not say the number of the casualties among his forces told VOI “the most dangerous bombs were those called the Iranian EFP of which 24 were confiscated and more were still planted between houses and neighborhoods.”
Lion’s Leap, a security plan, was launched last Saturday in Diwaniya city, 180 km south of Baghdad, in hunt for wanted men, mostly from the Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army.
“Dozens of tons” ? Damn. That’s great news. Take the shit off the street and the shitheads that use it off the street.
Outstanding work Iraqis and US troops.
