Pope Tells World To Pray For Success At Annapolis

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict on Sunday called for a “just and definitive” solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, asking the world to pray for the success of the Annapolis conference.
Benedict, speaking at his weekly address, asked that all join in a day of prayer called for Sunday by U.S. Catholic bishops for a positive outcome to the conference.
He said he hoped the conference would be able to find a “just and definitive solution to the conflict that for 60 years has been bloodying the Holy Land and which has caused so many tears and so much suffering among the two peoples”.
Speaking from the steps of St Peter’s Basilica after a ceremony with new cardinals, he asked that all join in “imploring God for peace for that region which is so dear to us and to grant the gifts of wisdom and courage to all who take part in this important meeting”.
The conference starts on Tuesday in Annapolis, Maryland.
It is aimed at resuming talks on a final Palestinian peace with Israel, seven years after a summit at Camp David hosted by President George W. Bush’s predecessor Bill Clinton collapsed.
The Vatican supports a Palestinian state and Israel’s right to exist in security.

I thought that went out the window with Urban in 1860 when the remnants of the inquisition were finally defeated paving the way for Italy to become the Italy we know today. Don’t get the wrong idea, I’m not enjoying beating up on Catholics, I was raised one. Though I have to admit one of the most exciting days in my life was when I was thirteen and wanted to see if God would in fact strike me dead if I ate meat on Friday. Since I was still alive after the first hamburger I celebrated by having another. I think it was twenty years later that I found out that that whole no meat on Friday thing was decreed by a Pope to help the fisherman in some part of Italy because farmers were cutting into their business by out competing with them on selling meat.

but here, in our history, it is said that this obligation came from Middle-age, cause people were eating too much meat, from hunting ; that caused some kind of illness, one is called “goutte”, which affected the toes and feet
and yes this pope authorised “latin” in churches again ; he wants to rally the radical catholics who were banned for a few decades ago after the eocumenic concile presided by Jehan the 23rd in the sixties (?)
dunno anymore how I lost faith, but this friday thing came through too, may-be more because I witnessed how hypocrits the persons who professed faith were

That was what I was supposing (but had to verify) ; the Turk were not the AQ jihaders alike now though : it was more imperialism agenda ; a competition with Venezia and byzantine influence. In former Yougoslavia or Bulgaria, they didn’t convert the population by force ; just they gave the “good” administrative posts to the new converted muslins, they gain more converts with the “interests” they proposed them to be a muslin ; idem for the recruitment for their army, the families who let one of their youngs to join the janissaires were retribuated.
The discourse had hardly something to do with OBL. May-be OBL’s fellows take this defeat as a motive for revange ; but we all know how they bias the islam discourse.
