“Redacted” Biggest Bomb In History
Less than 3,000 people nationwide paid to look at a big pile of shit.
Whether it was the boycott, or the hype, or the groundswell of public outcry prior to its release really doesn’t matter…America has shunned this film, its director Brian DePalma, and producer Mark Cuban.
As it should.
From The New York Post:
November 25, 2007 — IT’S hard for Hollywood pacifists like Brian De Palma to capture the hearts and minds of America if Americans won’t see their movies.
While the public is staying away in droves from “Rendition,” “Lions for Lambs” and “In the Valley of Elah,” audiences are really avoiding “Redacted,” De Palma’s picture about US soldiers who rape a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, then kill her and her family.
The message movie was produced by NBA Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who insisted on deleting grisly images of Iraqi war casualties from the montage at the film’s end. Cuban offered to sell the film back to De Palma at cost, but the director was too smart to go for that deal.
“Redacted” - which “could be the worst movie I’ve ever seen,” said critic Michael Medved -took in just $25,628 in its opening weekend in 15 theaters, which means roughly 3,000 people saw it in the entire country.
“This, despite an A-list director, a huge wave of publicity, high praise in the Times, The New Yorker, left-leaning sites like Salon, etc. A Joe Strummer documentary [of punk-rock band The Clash] playing in fewer theaters made more in its third week,” e-mailed one cineaste. “Not even people who presumably agree with the movie’s antiwar thesis made the effort to see it.”
Bwahahahahaha, reap the fruits of your labor, eh DePalma?!
“Say hello to our Little Friend!” It’s called our wallets.
November 26th, 2007 at 12:09 pmJustice has been served.
November 26th, 2007 at 12:11 pmThank you everyone out there for NOT going to see this movie and boycotting it. But I am afraid the damage has been done and now the corrupt Islamic Fascists will use this as a propaganda/recruiting tool. All I am going to say is if I find out that this piece of Garbage they called a documentary has indirectly harm any soldiers (and thats includes my Son) I and many good citizen will SUE your a$$ Mark Cuban. Oh, and have a nice day punk!
November 26th, 2007 at 12:13 pmToo damn bad we couldn’t drop this “bomb” on Iran and Amydidherdad …
November 26th, 2007 at 12:27 pmI was in Hollywood yesterday. Essentially most of the place is a dump. Why don’t these big mouth Hollywood liberals invest in their own neighborhood and make it better. Yuk! At any rate, maybe they got the message and will make movies with stories people want to see. It couldn’t happen to a couple of nicer guys!
November 26th, 2007 at 12:33 pmBreaks my fooking heart. Maybe now the rest of Hollyweird will see that this POS is a loser and finally put him oyr to parture.
Fook him square in the neck, LOL.
November 26th, 2007 at 12:51 pmCrappola…”out to pasture” is how that was intended to come out
November 26th, 2007 at 12:51 pm“Oh crap”, says De Palma, “not only do I look like a child molesting piece of shit, not only do I dress like a clueless nerd, not only am I hated by 99% of Americans, but I also cant make movies that dont suck. That really blows because I have dedicated my life to making movies. God, I am such a loser. I’d kill myself but Im afraid people would piss on my grave.”
November 26th, 2007 at 1:03 pmNow get the hell outta my country DePalma/cuban, you couple of dog grunts!
November 26th, 2007 at 1:10 pmDePalma -
Did you at least make enough to have that “thing” removed from your forehead?
Damn! Is that what ‘the mark of the devil’ looks like? Looks cancerous, dude!
November 26th, 2007 at 1:35 pmTake that De Palma, you wanker! I’m starting to regain the faith that the large majority of this country still has their minds right. And as far as Cuban, this guy should just keep getting hit in the wallet. How someone who has been given so much from this country could just tell us all to piss off with a film like this is just amazing. People who think freedom is free and America became such a land of opportunity by chance alone really make me mad.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:39 pm3,000?!! Holy crap - I guess most people do avoid a pile of shit when they see it coming.. That’s funny, DePalma you stupid fuck!..BWAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!…I’m literally laughing my ass off at this self-righteous piece of human debris! Keep it up America!! Well done!, maybe those under-educated morons in Hollywood will, slowly-short-bus-like, figure out that the VAST majority of us do not stand with them and their intellectually vacant minions. Probably more folks lined up @ the local Best Buy on Black Friday …
November 26th, 2007 at 1:51 pmThe problem isn’t, and never was, Americans seeing this movie. The threat is that some wannabe-jihadi will see this and finally work up the balls to take a potshot at our troops, or saw the head off some civilian aid worker.
Now, every time I hear about the latest beheading or IED, I’ll wonder if this movie had anything to do with it. I’m not sure what I’d do if I ever meet that pillow biter DePalma.

November 26th, 2007 at 4:28 pmRight on, JonnyMordant!
November 26th, 2007 at 4:35 pmThat’s great JonnyMordant! HA. Gotta love it! Screw DiPalma, what an asshat.
I know a certain somebody who has the Spanish version of Redacted on their H/D and so I took a short look at the end of it just to see how messed up it really is, but hell if he’ll get one penny of my money for it. hehe. Not sure how a certain somebody got the copy but as long as one penny didn’t go to asshat DiPalma who cares. hehe. This certain somebody told me they were going to get the copy out of spite for DiPalma when the word got out about how this film is anti-U.S. troop propaganda. hehe. As Sgt Schultz in “Hogan’s Heroes” used to say: “I know nuthink”……..

That is the real problem with this movie or any other ones that are put out there during a war.
I am glad that so few people went to see it though and that the assholes did not make money on it. I hope that would continue with any of their ventures in the future as well.

November 26th, 2007 at 7:07 pmHey, just a thought….. Is it possible to sue someone for wrongful death or treason. I know, the land of the free, free speach, etc, but seriously, when does telling a person with malice in their heart the alarm code become treason vs freedom of speech. Wether you support the war, the president or the economy, you MUST support the troops. If you want them home, then write your congressman, or vote someone that DOESNT owe special interest to become you congressman. What do we have to do to have this country express the common folks opinion vs. the special interest’s opinion? Seriously, enough of this broked system, enough of the 18% base tax on billionaires and 32% base tax on his employees. Stop spending money creating a bunch of condradicating statistics trying to prove anything you want, and start living my the SPIRIT of the CONSTITUTION, not the loophole/letter of the law (AND ALL THE MICRO MANAGEMENT IT CREATES!!)..
