Bash Blog: My Take On The Annapolis Talks

Bash here: Look, I know Bush has to at least try. He is doing a noble thing by trying to facilitate the whole “process” at Annapolis this week, but quite frankly, my subtitle for the whole conference would be:

“Time to Beat Our Heads Against The Wailing Wall Again.”

carter
I remember as a teen actually watching Carter try it, when I saw Begin and Sadat shake hands, I felt like I was witnessing history (limited as my experience was at the time). But even today much is smuggled into Gaza through Egypt, and do we really believe they don’t know that? Sadat paid dearly for that handshake.

clinton
Then after becoming thirtysomething I remember Clinton at the White House with Rabin and that little fucking Weasel Arafat. Good Lord, I wanted to puke and thought Rabin did too at that moment, he sure looked like he wanted to.

And this morning I watched it again, with Abbas, Olmert, and Bush. God bless him for trying, but he got both of their names wrong and looked about as comfortable as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs (my apologies for the use of a cliche, bad writer…bad, bad writer…no Krispy Creme). I think he would have rather been somewhere else. But George Bush is at least giving it a whirl.

We’ll see what happens but I will tell you this…in my own humble opinion:

It will never truly happen. The two groups are so fundamentally opposed to each other, for either of them it would be as if a Christian said: “Sure, I’ll let Satan move in to my house.” That’s about how they view each other. Blame Abraham for banging Hagar at his wife’s behest because she couldn’t believe Isaac would come along as promised. Not at her age.

Sarah laughed.

But when Isaac showed up, Sarah said “Get that bitch and her bastard kid Ishmael out of my house.” So he did. The rest is history which includes a pedophile who conversed with demons creating a cult of death and a plague upon the human race. The hatred runs deeper and further back than islam, but is no doubt fueled greatly by the events of the last 40 years in the region.

One of the first conditions spewed out of Abbas’ mouth was that they wanted a Palestinian capital that included East Jerusalem.

And Jerusalem is the stumbling block. That’s Good Book stuff right there.

Not going to happen on any Israeli’s watch, I can tell you that right now. At least not with the approval of the Israeli people.

There is no real workable answer here, and beware the guy who comes up with the plan that everybody loves…

Oh yeah, one more thing, Syria is asking for the Golan Heights back. You can essentially lob a missile anywhere into Israel from that high ground. Syria has been building up its military on that border recently. I smell a rat.

Some of Bush’s quotes from this morning I borrowed from Human Events:

On the importance of an independent, democratic Palestinian state:

Today, Palestinians and Israelis each understand that helping the other to realize their aspirations is the key to realizing their own — and both require an independent, democratic, viable Palestinian state. Such a state will provide Palestinians with the chance to lead lives of freedom, purpose and dignity. And such a state will help provide Israelis with something they have been seeking for generations: to live in peace with their neighbors.

Achieving this goal will not be easy — if it were easy, it would have happened a long time ago.

On the goal of The Annapolis Conference:

Our purpose here in Annapolis is not to conclude an agreement. Rather, it is to launch negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians. For the rest of us, our job is to encourage the parties in this effort — and to give them the support they need to succeed.

On the timing of The Annapolis Conference:

In light of recent developments, some have suggested that now is not the right time to pursue peace. I disagree. I believe that now is precisely the right time to begin these negotiations — for a number of reasons:

First, the time is right because Palestinians and Israelis have leaders who are determined to achieve peace…Second, the time is right because a battle is underway for the future of the Middle East — and we must not cede victory to the extremists…Third, the time is right because the world understands the urgency of supporting these negotiations.

On the path ahead:

The task begun here at Annapolis will be difficult. This is the beginning of the process, not the end of it — and much work remains to be done. Yet the parties can approach this work with confidence. The time is right. The cause is just. And with hard effort, I know they can succeed.

All good points Bash. I want to be optimistic, I REALLY want to be optimistic but I just don’t see it happening. Any change that ever happens over there will have to come from a youth movement. We all know how indoctrinated the kids are to hate Jews and martyr themselves so I’d say the future will be bleak for quite a while.

“The Israelis must do their part. They must show the world that they are ready to begin — to bring an end to the occupation that began in 1967 through a negotiated settlement. ”

That’s another statement GWB made today that has led me to believe he is losing his marbles. So Israel is going to be pushed into moving back to the pre-Six Day War boundaries? And, pray tell, what does “Palestine” have to do in return? Anybody? (sound of crickets chirping….)

There are no Palestinian people, there is no Palestinian nation. They are Arabs, in language, genetics, culture and religion. The whole “Palestine” thing is a bald faced lie.

Once again, Israel gives and the Arabs take. But if this movement toward the pre-1967 boundaries takes momentum, I cannot imagine the people of Israel, especially the Orthodox Jews, standing still for losing the Temple Mount and the Wailing Wall.

This Annapolis meeting is a smear on our country.

Why is it that Westerners still think that the answer to the Arab-Israeli conflict and the troubles in the ME are somehow tied to this one issue?

The Jihad against the West has NOTHING to do with Israel or Western foreign policy, past or present.

Israel can give up all the land it wants to and still there will be no peace because their enemies will want more land, until Israel is no more.

Will a deal stop Hamas or Hizbollah from attacking Israel? Will they now stop refering to Jews as Apes? Will they then stop killing Jews? Not a chance.

The irhabis are engaged in a blood feud with all of the West in the name of world conquest and the spread of Islamofacism.

Death to Israel and America they shout. And will continue to do so until they are defeated or they defeat us.

What a waste of time this conference is. It’s too bad GW and the rest of the West hasn’t bother to read the Islamofacist’s version of Mein Kampf. If they had, they wouldn’t be looking as stupid as they do at the moment.

Keep burying your heads in the sand Westerners…stay stupid…and you’ll reap what you sow.

    Dumbasses.

One hundred percent right again bash.

Israel can give and give and give and the muslims will want more.

This won’t end for quite some time.

It’s time Israel and America stop fucking around and kick the muslims off the holy land, and while we’re at it take down that fucking dome of the rock and rebuild the temple. What’s the worst that could happen? I guess the muslims might get pissed and start killing people. Oh yeah they already hate us so fuck ‘em!

We need to see this for what it really is, a war between civilized people and muslims.

You can’t have peace with muslims, it’s like oil and water.

The time for talks is over. It’s time to show the world just what we really can do.

    WE

    NEED

Bash, I thought you were extremely gentle on GWB, who has obviously dug up an old batch of his Dad’s “clueless pills” prescription, and OD’d on them. And what about Condosleeza, who today makes Madeline Albright look like Jeane Kirkpatrick?

The pre-Six Day war borders weren’t acceptable to the Arabs in 1967 - they were gearing up for war then. Why would anyone believe those borders would satisfy the Arabs now, particularly considering the venom they have filled their children with?
