This is a new feature. It’s going to suck - in technical ways, and hell, well, maybe others. I am not a good writer, not especially disciplined ( in general actually), and have a million different jobs to do, people to argue with, bribe and manipulate - and just don’t have the time and patience for formal blogging per se - the kind where you proof-read, checking for spelling, grammar, cogency, proper paragraph breaks, appropriate titles, etc., so what I’m going to do is just throw down whatever thoughts and musings come to mind, whatever unfolding tales of my life, uh, unfold, and just throw things out in a random sort of - to borrow a hackneyed phrase - stream of consciousness. It’ll also allow me to quickly toss out a living diary of my often bizarre and definitely tumultuous, conflict-riven life.
The day’s entries will begin at the top. I’ll try to put a timestamp next to each one. Once the day’s over, the slate will be clean for the next one’s. I can embed videos as well.
Thanks.
Pat Dollard
AGAIN: PROPER SPELLING, GRAMMAR, ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF DOES NOT APPLY HERE:
6:07 AM
Don’t know how much posting I’m going to get done today, as in a few hours I’m heading out to one of the biggest gun shows in the country. ( Bash will be handling most of the regular posts - I need people to snitch on him if he takes too long between posts ) I have high hopes for coming back with a flame thrower. Flamethrowers are legal, not regulated: they are not firearms, cos they just shoot fire.
I’m also in the market for a lot of other things. I’ll post photos of the purchases.
In what may or may not be shaping up as a creative showdown, an episode of the series is showing up this morning by Fed-Ex about a very gruesome suicide bombing in Ramadi. It’ll be episode three of the 8 episode YA series. ( post-production guys add edits and stuff after I do the original cut of the episode ) I’ve been having battles with certain of the Scott’s team in the creative process ( more on that later ), and if they fuck up my cut of this episode and are can’t get their shit together in the ways I need them to get the whole thing done right, I may have to move on. Good news is I’ve got lots of other people lined up, and any blowups with my current creative partners will only mean the series gets out faster, since Showtime is keen on having it out in April. Enough people piss me off and you’ll be able to see it a lot quicker. Hang in for the update. I’m still dealing with people who call Marines “Soldiers”.
Hah! Fox is just reporting that thousands of those enlightened followers of the prophet have just shown up on courtroom steps in Sudan to demand, DEMAND! the execution of that British chick who let her Muslim students name the class bear Mohmmad. Remember that point: it wasn’t even she who named the damned bear, it was the kids. People scoff at the “low” numbers of Violent Lunatic Muslims, but the truth is, no one has any real idea just how much damage these ever growing numbers are poised to cause on this planet…..out for now.
6:16 AM
Later on, today or tomorrow, I’m going to post Tony Scott’s people’s suggested “Young Americans” logo, so y’all can tell me if it sucks or not.
7:41 P.M.
Just got back from the gunshow,so I’m entirely out of the loop on all of the day’s shenanigan’s, horrors, public cries for help from the wretched, everything. Heard something about Hillary and a bomb. Hope Bash and Ian and Iggy kept you up on the news.
I passed on the flamethrower - didn’t want to part with 13 grand. Got a full kit Romanian AK - with bayonet of course, a stunning Springfield Tactical Operator, night sights built in, slide on top, custom grip, .45 cal, - it’s the shit. I took a chance on a High Standard concealable Officer’s Model compact Crusader. Anyone particularly hate High Standards? Love ‘em let me know. Right now the rest of my collection includes two Glock 21’s, a concealable Springfield .45, two more ak’s, a binelli, a mossberg, and FAL. For me, it’s .762 and .45 all the way, no reason not to have the stopping power. Gotta get a .22 soon enough though, just for burning up ammo out in the desert cheapley.
Big drama unfolding on the YA front. Updates on that soon, I’m fried for right now. More soon….
sounds neat Pat! As a fellow blogger myself I know how challenging that can be!
Good luck!
November 29th, 2007 at 6:37 pmOooooo, wait! Is this going to be like “Deep thoughts with Jack Handy”?
“I took a bite out of the apple, enjoying it’s crispy texture and juciness…”
“…then I looked down and realized it was a human head!”
November 29th, 2007 at 7:24 pm“I’m not a good write”
Yeahhh righttt!
November 29th, 2007 at 8:17 pmI dunno Pat. Sounds like you really don’t have time for this…
I mean how are you gonna fit it in between Hob Nobbing with the likes of Rumsfeld et al…
Bwhahahahahahahah
Just kidding man.
Best wishes, and good luck on the series and the other endeavors.
November 30th, 2007 at 1:35 amEveryone should keep in mind that I sign Righthandgirl’s paychecks.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:41 amOkay Pat, with that in mind, we’ll focus on your point instead of a grammatical error or misuse of a word….So sip it, grip it and rip it
November 30th, 2007 at 5:09 ameh, I am the one with the least grammar and vocabulary abilities, and no inferiority complexes
November 30th, 2007 at 6:13 amThis is a good idea man. It provides for a full expression of your thoughts.
Mispelling on a blog is no big deal. Frankly it is irrelevant. The ideas are what count
November 30th, 2007 at 7:09 amI’m still dealing with people who call Marines “Soldiers”.
———————————————–
Simple cure for that, I think:
Take ’said’ people to some “soldiers” and have them call them “Marines” to their faces …
November 30th, 2007 at 7:45 amGood luck with the flamethrower, that would be a fun toy. Im looking to get a nice AR-15 for xmas or some other kind of bushmaster rifle
November 30th, 2007 at 7:54 amBTW
Even though it wasn’t THAT good of a flick, my first problem with “G.I. Jane” …
She was training to be a Navy SEAL … The Navy is NOT part of the Army … who the G.I. term belongs to. (Hell, that was Tony’s bro Ridley in on that movie too … Come on, guys! I rather like the Scott brothers’ “products”)
Which goes to show, Hollywood doesn’t know it’s ass from a hole in the head when it comes to anything military.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:56 amI hope I never piss you off, Pat….
November 30th, 2007 at 8:05 am“an episode of the series is showing up this morning by Fed-Ex about a very gruesome suicide bombing in Ramadi.”
My boy was there that day:
yeh that bombing was just day before yesterday, my crew got called in to police up the bodys. That was the most horrific thing i will probably ever see in my life, somthin around 48 killed last i heard. All hajis, but still… i dont know whats wrong with these people dad, there all fucking retards! oh well we are on guard duty right now so i got some time to rest, but to much time to think, so its a 50 50…
Hey dad sorry i havnt emailed in a while, the internet center closes every time we take losses, for a certain amount of time. This computer is missing a shit load of keys so this is taking a long time to write. saddly the weps co lcpl that died was my close friend shane swanberg, he was killed by a mortar outside the chow hall… he was one of the guys that was with us at the yard house for our last big meal, that giant steak dinner. we are all realy fukin pissed about it. oh well comes with the job.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:53 amon new years we all sat around the fire, and shotgunned near beer, and laughed at each other for being so desperate, hahaha.
there is a documentary guy here pat, that has followed my team taking film, hes going to be showing the film on showtime, i think he said, no time soon though i think. but hes got some bad ass footage of me and my guys, me yelling at iraqis in arabic, and us getting into a hairyass firefight, its pretty bad ass! ok well im gonna send this, and try calling you agian, i just tried calling twice, but no answer
love you guys, and ill talk to you soon!
Love, Fisheye
@MarineDad
Thanks for sharing that.
All love and prayers for your Fisheye and his buddies.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:18 amgreat idea, Pat. btw, wtf are you doing up at 6am blogging? your work ethic is truly impressive, however bizarre
November 30th, 2007 at 9:21 amMarineDad, God bless your son and your family. While I’m reading his post to you, I find myself thinking how he’s taking nothing for granted, typing on a computer missing some keys, remembering his last big meal, while on this side of the sandbox people are whining about not having the computer system they want over a ‘routine business lunch’ consisting of more food than your son probably gets time to eat in a day.
My husband and I pray for everyone serving every day, as well as their families. Sites like this one bring to light the tremendous sacrifices being made by the troops AND their families.
Thank God for your son, for the fine parents who raised him to know that serving is the greater thing and for this site.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:26 amI’m pretty sure you need me to validate the quality of the forth coming “Young Americans” logo.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:29 amWent to 3/7 Marines homecoming, after Ramadi tour. Off the bus comes our son ‘fisheye’ and right behind him a skinny and recovering from ied wounds Pat Dollard. Fisheye introduced us. All you folks who follow Dollard gotta know that Pat was, is and will continue to be a fellow Marine, to those he served with. Beers and chainsmoking that homecoming night, Dollard laughing it up with the hardcores…proved it to me. Have followed YA ever since. Pat has stuck his neck on the PC Liberal chopping block to do all this. YA will prove to be mighty powerfull ordnance deployed against the bedwetting peacniks on the left and Dollard has eaten a lot o’ sh_t to git it done.
Oorah Pat Congratulations and Semper Fi
November 30th, 2007 at 10:02 amGood luck on that flamethrower, and have fun. lol
I was thinking of picking up an AR-10A2 rifle or an M14, myself.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:04 amlol. by any chance. is that the gunshow in Tulsa, Oklahoma. if so ill be there too. but lol prolly a different one but ive heard this is one of the biggest in the world so…. yah.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:25 ama million monkeys banging on a million typewriters….
November 30th, 2007 at 11:27 amPat, I like this. It gives us a way to know more about the whole process you are going through to get this documentary out. I am glad you are holding Scott’s team to what you want and not letting anyone change your work.
MarineDad
Thank you for sharing the message from your son, Fisheye. Prayers for his fallen brother,LCPL Shane Swanberg, his fellow Marines, and loved ones.
What Pat is doing to honor these men has never been done quite like this before. Pat is absoultey a Marine. It is humbling to be able to be here to see it all happen and have the words we share.
