Two Busy Days In Baghdad
Baghdad, Nov 21, (VOI) – One gunman was killed and 14 wanted persons and suspects were arrested over the past 48 hours under the nine-month-old security plan launched by Iraqi security forces in the Iraqi capital, an official source said on Wednesday.
“Iraqi security forces in Baghdad’s western area of al-Karkh defused an improvised explosive device, arrested one wanted individual and seized a vehicle loaded with arms and explosives that was in his possession,” an official spokesman for the Baghdad security plan Operation Fardh al-Qanoon, Qassim Ata, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) by phone.
“In Baghdad’s eastern side of Rasafa security forces defused two explosive charges, arrested three wanted men, including an al-Qaeda leader, and seized a large amount of arms and ammunition in al-Adhamiya neighborhood,” Ata indicated.
Four other suspects were captured in Baghdad’s downtown neighborhood of al-Karada.
“In Baghdad’s suburbs, police forces managed to free a hostage, arrested four suspects, including two al-Qaeda members, killed a terrorist and injured another during clashes with armed forces,” Ata explained.
An arms depot was found in Baghdad’s southern district of al-Mahmoudiya and two suspects were arrested in Abu Gharib district, according to the spokesman.
Four police personnel were injured during the combat operations.
