Breaking Video: PHX Plane Evacuated As Suitcase In Cargo Hold Begins Smoking
Arizona Republic:
A gate was evacuated at Sky Harbor airport after smoke was seen coming from a suitcase in the cargo area.
A plane, being loaded and preparing for departure in gate A-17 in Terminal 4, evacuated all passengers on a US Airways flight around 10 a.m., according to Julie Rodriguez, spokeswoman for Sky Harbor International Airport.
The suitcase was in the US Airways cargo area when smoke was seen coming from it, Rodriguez said. Only Gate 17 was evacuated and not the entire concourse.
The suitcase is being checked out by the Phoenix Fire Department’s hazardous material team, Rodriguez said. The Phoenix police have also been contacted. The owner of the suitcase is being questioned by police, Rodriguez said.
There is no other word of any other flight delays.
