November 7th, 2007 at 6:07 pmMore proof the MSM doesn’t even try to get it right. That wasn’t his magazine that flew off, it was the cover over the gas piston/bolt carrier that was blown off. The AK-47 has a stamped metal cover about a foot long that rund from the beginning of the butt stock to the front of the chamber and gas tube area. The bolt carrier is a rather large piece that has the charging handle in a rather heavy chunk of metal with a long stem out the from and a small piston at the end which slides into the gas tube. Not many moving parts which makes it a simple and reliable weapon. The bolt carrier is actually hollowed out and has a tunnel if you will for the spring recoil mechanism. It’s a weapon you could train a ten year old to maintain. I’ve had some mad moments with one in my time.
