Rasmussen: Huckabee Now National GOP Frontrunner

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows a new national leader in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. While enjoying an amazing surge, Mike Huckabee has earned support from 20% of Likely Republican Primary Voters nationwide. Three points back, at 17%, is Rudy Giuliani. That’s the lowest level of support ever recorded for Giuliani in the tracking poll and represents a seven-point decline over the past week. Huckabee has gained eight points during the same time frame (see recent daily numbers).
Just as significant as the new leader is the amazingly competitive nature of the race. Five candidates are within ten points of the lead and all five could conceivably become the party’s eventual nominee. In addition to Huckabee and Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney are at 13%, and Fred Thompson is at 10% (see recent daily numbers). In what could become a major moment in the campaign, Romney will give a speech on faith and religion Thursday. Huckabee recently declined to comment on Romney’s faith but did say it was appropriate to discuss religion in a campaign setting (see video).
Ron Paul is the only other candidate with measurable support and he currently attracts 7% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide.

December 6th, 2007 at 3:57 amHe didn’t even know about the new NIE report. I’m sure Huckabee’s a great guy, but I’m not sure if he can handle being the Commander-in-Chief. Giuliani and McCain seem more qualified for the job.
I’m gonna miss GWB when he leaves office though. He always kept his cool and stayed true to his principles.

You know, I’m not so sure I believe all the current hype and hubbub about Huckabee’s numbers.
We all know how the so-called polling goes. What would keep them from stirring the GOP mix just to take attention off Hillary’s current self-destruct antics? After all, polls WERE showing GOP front runners Romney and Rudy pulling strong in match-ups with Her Royal Comrade (HRC) …
How does the slanted polling outfits and MSM counter that? By “promoting” a GOP candidate who is possibly weaker, and has even less of a chance in a match-up with The Clinton.

December 6th, 2007 at 3:56 pmBut, I see him as more of a VP type, than President. I believe the GOP candidate will in the end be one who proves to be tough on the borders, tough on the GWOT. I’d like that man to be Duncan Hunter, but the burden is on him to get his name out, and become the front runner.
Huckabee is either weak on or opposed to the positions I care about, and strong on the issues I really don’t give a shit about.
He’s for the protection of marriage and pro-life. That’s nice and all, I’d be happy to elect a Congressman like that (in my district? Ha!), but that doesn’t really matter to me in a President.
Fiscal policy? No different from the Left.
War on Islamofacsism? No different from the Left.
Border security? No different from the Left.
Law enforcement? No different from the Left.
No wonder the MSM loves him. They may hate his Christianity, but they love everything else about him. He’s McCain with no redeeming values. I’d take Lieberman over the guy in a heartbeat.
I’m torn between Rudy and Fred. I think both of them would make great Presidents. Romney seems weak to me. McCain is a liberal elitist in his heart. I like Hunter’s positions, but don’t know enough about him, especially how he would handle a crisis. And Ron Paul is a fracking Bircher.
My main requirement in a canidate is someone who’ll do what needs to be done, damn the polls. I KNOW Rudy has that quality. I think Thompson and Hunter have that quality.
Someone here said it best; something like, I want a guy who’ll wipe the blood and snot off on his sleeve and tell the other guy, “Stay the fuck down!”
Huckabee is not that guy. I expect he’ll soon be the guy on the ground, wondering what truck ran him over.
