Poll: Who Should Have Been Time’s ‘Person Of The Year’ And Why?
Reagan was Time’s “Man of the Year” in 1980, the year I graduated and cast my first vote…this flower kid son of hippies voted for Ronnie. Left my parents befuddled.
They say they had The Goracle (Gore), Rowling (Potter books), and General Petraeus also in the running, but they chose Vladimir Putin.
So, who do you think should have been named Time’s “Person of the Year” and why?
General Petraeus. No expanation needed on that one.
December 19th, 2007 at 10:18 am@Reign in Blood -
DITTO that … `nuff said.
December 19th, 2007 at 10:24 amI didn’t even read above that he was even in the running. I am actually shocked Time even considered him! Not shocked they didn’t pick him however.
December 19th, 2007 at 10:32 amPetraeus for President 2012.
December 19th, 2007 at 10:33 amReign in Blood ditto - again here

Of The Year Award !!!
PETRAEUS !!!
December 19th, 2007 at 11:29 amThe Great General Petraeus. Maybe he will win next year once we have achieved absolute victory in Iraq.
Maybe they are too scared to be patriotic in case our success reverses next year. Heaven forbid they actually and authentically “support the troops.”
I’d like to know who the genius is that came up with the idea of the KGB guy being better than one of the Finest Generals in American warfare history.
Let the Russians buy time magazine from now on. I won’t.
December 19th, 2007 at 11:35 amI can’t fault voting for Gen. Petraeus, but as Time usually puts in the person who has caused the most controversy, I would have to say the man of the year should have been Rush Limbaugh, not only has he been attacked by more people in the MSM, dhimmi party, or any where else, he has been fighting the good fight for conservatives and the military for 20 years…
December 19th, 2007 at 11:38 amJust remember Time’s Choice of Putin says much more about Time than it says about Putin.
1.PETRAEUS
December 19th, 2007 at 11:41 am2.Pres. Bush for having balls and not caring about polls.
3. Me, because I always like to see my name on magazine covers!
4. Tony Dungy-cause he represents what this nation needs most…strong, moral, and God fearing African American males. Plus I live in Indy. GO COLTS!
My top 5:
1) PATRAEUS
December 19th, 2007 at 11:44 am2) PATRAEUS
3) PATRAEUS
4) PATRAEUS
5) PATRAEUS
No doubt Petraeus…
December 19th, 2007 at 11:45 amI agree with Petraeus, although I kind of get why Putin won-he was in the news, and he maybe trying to get rid of democracy in Russia.
December 19th, 2007 at 12:06 pmGeneral Petraeus or Prez Bush it is true that those who have strength of conviction and do whats right…..the evil of the world does its best to destroy them.
We are in an evil time right now. When right is wrong and wrong is right we need G*ds hand to light the way. For sure these are dark times.
December 19th, 2007 at 12:36 pmSarkozy man of the year.
December 19th, 2007 at 12:58 pmPetraeus man of the decade.
I can’t think of a better choice than Petraeous or Limbaugh.
December 19th, 2007 at 1:01 pmBill Frist
He saved David Petraeus’s life…so that the good General could work his magic. Petraeus for president in 2012!!
December 19th, 2007 at 1:12 pmPetraeus…
December 19th, 2007 at 1:13 pm’nuff said.
Petraeus, of course, but I partial. Dave is one f my classmates from The Academy. Coincidentally, during a private get together we (members of our class) had for Dave back in September, several of us (unbeknownst to Dave) were discussing the possibility of putting him forward as a presidential candidate in ‘12. I don’t think he’d go for it though. He’s a soldier and his dedicated adherence to our motto, “Duty, Honor, Country” would be in conflict with how things work in D.C.
December 19th, 2007 at 1:18 pmthe problem is : who knows Petraeus, except you ?
from my side still Sarkozy is the man, everybody knows him
December 19th, 2007 at 2:27 pmActually Sarkozy wouldn’t have been a bad choice…
When was the last time the French president actually knew something about economics and defense strategy?
Sarkozy’s reforms have been stellar, and hats off to him for not backing down to those union dicks.
Person of the year…of Europe?
December 19th, 2007 at 3:07 pmGeneral Petraeus and the troops.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:12 pmPetraeus and the troops.
December 19th, 2007 at 3:14 pmGeneral Petraeus
December 19th, 2007 at 4:47 pmAt the risk of sounding arrogant, I think I should have been person of the year.
And when did it change from “Man of the Year” to “Person of the Year”? Gay.
December 19th, 2007 at 5:31 pmBut yeah, if it can’t be me… Chuck Norris.
December 19th, 2007 at 5:32 pmMy top five?
December 19th, 2007 at 7:47 pm1.Petraeus
2.Petraeus
3.John Bolton’s mustache
4.Petraeus
5.Petraeus
Screw all the man of the year crap.
We need to start a new thing.
We need to give out an “Asshole of the Year award.
There would be an endless list of candidates and some of the same guys that were on the man of the year list would be on the asshole list. Lemme see, theres Gore, Putin, Ahmadenajad, and the list goes on and on and on. Can you have a 50 way tie? It would never end.
Certainly would be a lot more interesting to read.
December 19th, 2007 at 8:27 pm1.) General Petraeus
December 19th, 2007 at 8:37 pm2.) President Bush
3.) Sarkozy
4.) …
5.) …

Yes Bash - Times (timely pun?) have changed since 1980. No way Time could have made Patraeus “person” of the year in 2007. That would intefere with their ongoing campaigning for dems in ‘08.
