I’m Roman Catholic and I’m not offended by Ron Paul’s use of the Sinclair Lewis quotation (at least get it right!), “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.” In fact, I agree wholeheartedly with it. The use of nationalistic religion and jingoistic “patriotism” are among the many ingredients of totalitarian states. See Naomi Wolf’s current book, “The End of America,” for an overview of how totalitarian states come to power. No one can question Ron Paul’s credentials as a Christian, and I’d say he’s the only candidate whose foreign policy of peace reflects the teachings of Jesus.
December 18th, 2007 at 8:38 amI think Ron Paul now has as much chance of getting elected
as Naomi.
Except for the paulians - he’s done.
December 18th, 2007 at 8:47 amRon who?
December 18th, 2007 at 8:57 amI’m a Roman Catholic, so I know the secret handshake too. Big fucking deal. I still wouldn’t give two squirts of piss for Ron Paul.
“The use of nationalistic religion and jingoistic “patriotism” are among the many ingredients of totalitarian states.”
What is a nationalistic religion? My answer would be communism since it replaces a God fearing religion with a religion of the self. I would include environmentalism as well where the earth is worshipped. These religions already have us in their grip. Fascism, like it is any different than the others, same poison, different box. Don’t kid yourself.
As far as jingoism is concerned, there is nothing wrong with having pride in one’s country, but when Americans do it the self-loathing pussies come out and disdain it and when some other country shows pride the same America-haters praise said country.
Ron Paul should come out and admit he really is just a libertarian instead of hiding behind an elephant, much more respectable that way. Also, besides his blame America first attitude, I’m suspicious of a guy who can raise $6 mil in one day ala Klinton. Enjoy the kool-aid.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:22 amTaking a shot at America? Nice use of Westaphobic metaphors. Maybe he and Dennis The Mennis Kucinich could get together and run as independents?
We could call the ticket “fruit ‘n nuts”.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:29 amTed B
Couldn’t have said it better myself. And yes, I am also Roman Catholic.

I’m really intrigued by the “nationalistic religion” comment. It goes well with confirming something I have thought for some time now that liberals want to live “judgement free” which means they want to do stuff that organized religion does not condone, yet they still want to feel moral and good (as anyone will) so they come up with a replacement for religion, (insert moonbat cause here) where they can be the oppressive zealots. See how that works? Cake and eat it too.
Hypocracy Delusion = Liberalism
December 18th, 2007 at 9:46 amWas amazed this morning at that comment, Doocey let him off easy.
Sinclair Lewis is a Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Ted B is right on this one.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:54 amRon Paul has no Christian credentials. Sucking Jihadi cock is not what Jesus would do.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:55 am“he’s the only candidate whose foreign policy of peace reflects the teachings of Jesus.”
Riiight, because Jesus was famous for saying “surrender to your enemies and bend over for them”. Ron Paul needs to piss off Tehran, they might appreciate his anti-American treason there.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:59 amWill no one rid me of this troublesome physician?
December 18th, 2007 at 10:02 amHere’s his point:
December 18th, 2007 at 10:04 amHuckabee needs to quit trying to shovel his religion down my throat. The religious-right has vast amounts of power in the republican party, and all they do is force their beliefs and values structure on to other people.
I’m a Roman Catholic, went to Catholic school all my life, I’m fairly conservative on most social issues. But I’m not going to force my beliefs on to others. That’s not what this country is about, and I won’t support anyone who thinks it’s okay to capitalize on religion for political gain.
And don’t misuse Scripture to make a political point ala “turn the other cheek”. This is an annoying, tired, worn out old saw that the liberals who don’t care about learning what God means by His words.
BTW, Jesus never voted, I hope you are still fond of following the good Lord’s example. Ha!
December 18th, 2007 at 10:07 am@deathstar
You’re right. He didn’t say “bend over for them.”
What He did say was this: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
December 18th, 2007 at 10:09 amLuke 6:27-31
I think verse 22 says what it is all about without any parsing;
Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake.
The last part is the big one, the one with meaning, for His sake and not our own. Furthermore I don’t see where that allows the wholesale destruction of western society at the hands of the irhabis.
Personally, I’m a Book of Proverbs guy myself… life’s owners’ manual.
December 18th, 2007 at 10:20 amWhat He did say was this: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
Luke 6:27-31
This shows how few Christian credentials Ron Paul has. Hes the silly shit who thinks it was wrong to “do good to those who hate you” by bringing freedom and democracy to the Middle East. What a bastard. Hes also the guy who would see us surrender to Islamo-fascism rather that fight for whats right.
December 18th, 2007 at 10:28 amRon Paul is a strong Christian, I do agree with him on this that Huck is doing this to try and get the Christian vote by acting like hes the most religious..I dont agree with Mr.Paul on the war but people here seem to give him a really hard time and act like hes an idiot, but he is the most conservative just look at his voting record.
…by the way he used to work as the doctor for a church and didnt charge people if they couldnt afford it, by saying he is not going to get the Christian vote just because he is defending people takeing advantage of the Chrisitan religion is rediculous.
December 18th, 2007 at 10:30 amWas that Ron Paul or Ru Paul?
December 18th, 2007 at 10:33 am“What He did say was this: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Luke 6:27-31″
Interesting that he said that, but never once joined or condoned his enemies the Pharisees. He fought back with logic and harsh words. He smacked them down at every turn and never gave an inch of ground to them.
Caving in to your enemies and joining them, was not in His itinerary. Read the six woes in Matt 23:13 - 33.
Fook Rhue Paul and his westapobic alliances. I don’t care who he quotes, the man a delluded kool-aid drinker.
December 18th, 2007 at 10:35 am“but he is the most conservative just look at his voting record.”
True conservatives are strong on national defense. Ron is very weak on national defense. He is clearly not the most conservative candidate.
December 18th, 2007 at 10:43 amJesus did not tell his apostles to go hide in their own house and hoard their wealth and mind their own business,
HE sent them out to change the world.
WWJD
Good job Ted B
December 18th, 2007 at 10:51 am“logic and harsh words”
Exactaly, logic and harsh words. Not violence.
@deathstar
I think a lot of people would say he’s really strong on national defense, just weak on national offense…
December 18th, 2007 at 11:10 amMark Tanberg - Regarding
Jesus did not tell his apostles to go hide in their own house and hoard their wealth and mind their own business,
HE sent them out to change the world.
TRUTH!
December 18th, 2007 at 11:12 amRP stealing a quote from the communist, Sinclair Lewis…
December 18th, 2007 at 11:54 am“Exactaly, logic and harsh words. Not violence.” Except when he chased the money-changers from the temple. Seems even Jesus knew that there is a time and place for everything. “A time to kill and a time to build up” comes to mind.
December 18th, 2007 at 11:55 am“I think a lot of people would say he’s really strong on national defense…”
I think there are not a lot of people sayoing that since leaving saddam free to build nukes for Al-Qaida is not really being strong on national defense. If you enjoyed 9/11 I encourage you to vote for Ron Paul.
December 18th, 2007 at 12:08 pmUSA Today/Gallup, Republican nonination: Giuliani 27, Huckabee 16, Romney 14, McCain 14, Thompson 14, Paul 3
Wow. Ron Pauls at three percent. Thats impressive. Looks like he got a real shot. RON PAUL REVOLUTION.
har har
December 18th, 2007 at 12:21 pm@deathstar
“I think there are not a lot of people sayoing that since leaving saddam free to build nukes for Al-Qaida”
There was never a connection between Saddam and Al-Qaida. Bush and Cheney both have admitted and said this. They argued that Saddam was part of a greater war, not ever connected to 9/11. If you think this, it’s your own ignorance to blame.
CNN has Paul at 11%.
December 18th, 2007 at 2:09 pmWow CNN has Paul at 11%. LOL. Who fooking cares. Come nomination time, Paul will be back home watching the process on TV.
December 18th, 2007 at 4:21 pm“There was never a connection between Saddam and Al-Qaida.”
I see the Ron bots have taken the liberal surrender monkey retoric to heart. What idiots. Why did Saddam representatives travel to Afghanistan to meet with Bin-Laden and why did Quesay Husseins secret police meet with al-Qaida terrorists?
Ron Pauls sheeple are as bad as Billy Clinton fans. Their head in the sand mentality will result in stronger terrorist organizations around the world. Fuck Ron, hes an un-American terrorist bootlicker. Face it, Hillary has more balls than him.

Huckabee defends campaign ad in Houston appearance
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/5387984.html
From the article:
Huckabee said today that in his unscripted commercial, he mentioned Jesus Christ because, considering the meaning of the holiday, “I don’t know what else to say about Christmas.”
Some people are drawing such wild inferences from the commercial, Huckabee joked, that they might believe the ad says “Paul is dead” when played backwards.
It was a reference to the myth that the hidden news of Beatle Paul McCartney’s “death” was revealed in the backwards playing of one of the band’s songs.”
Ron Paul’s bad enough … But Naomi Wolf!?!?!?
Naomi Friggin’ Wolf!?!?
Puh-leeze!
December 18th, 2007 at 6:17 pm…and Jesus said,
My favorite
If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.
December 18th, 2007 at 6:38 pmCNN = Credibility Not! Network
They are what they accuse Fox of being. In other words they believe their own lies, apparently so do you.
December 18th, 2007 at 7:55 pmTo be Frank, when I hear someone say “I support Ron Paul”, I hear them saying “I’m either Gulliable, Crazy or both.”
I also can’t fathom why Huckabee is suddenly getting so much Attention, at least Rudy had Charisma, if Huckabee is going to get a serious look people need to wake up and check out Duncan Hunter, he’s the only true conservative of the bunch.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:39 pmNews flash… Ron Paul IS an idiot! If that is a revelation that is just dawning on you or worst, has yet to dawn on you then wake up and cease all contributions to the ass wipe that is Ron Paul. He attempts to lend credit to the notion that our government may have had a hand in 9-11 and has publicly justified the death of American troops in Iraq by saying that it’s understandable that our troops are dying in Iraq because we are there illegally fighting an illegal war.
Face it Ron Paul is a nut and his followers are just a sad example of what paranoia can do to some folks.
