Mark Steyn On Pakistan: “Safe Bet It’ll Evolve Into Something Worse”
Mark Steyn was interviewed on the Hugh Hewitt Show yesterday, here is an excerpt:
“…the one safe bet you can make is that Pakistan generally evolves into something worse. You mentioned the army, which was traditionally one of the least corrupt institutions of Pakistan. It has very much, and it honors, people like General Musharraf honor that British-Indian army tradition from which they sprang, and in which they trained. But in recent years, that army, too, has been hollowed out by not just the corruption elements that afflict the political class in Pakistan, but also by Islamism, too. So that a good bet, I would say, is that the Pakistani army, a decade down the road, will be a lot worse than the Pakistani army of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. And it is the height of arrogance for people to sit around in think tanks and sort of plot courses for this kind of great seething cauldron of anonymous faces on the other side of the world.”

Nods to drillanwr.
The Islamo-facists in Pakistan keep getting stronger. So what exactly is Musharaff doing with the billions we have given him anyways?
Seems to me Afghanistan will never be free of the psychopaths of the Taliban until we deal with Pakistan’s western provinces.
If we or Europe continues to do nothing….the Jihadis working for their false prophet will continue to pose an ever-increasing threat to both US interests and to European security…not to mention Afghani security…
If Musharaff goes…I say all bets are off and we attack the western provinces.
This is the Ho Chi Minh trail problem all over again.

I agree … It’s time for Musharraf to take a stand and choose a side. He’s playing with fire … and after Bhutto’s murder he has GOT TO know no matter how much appeasing he does with these thugs he is still highly expendable to them …
BTW … Re: “If Musharaff goes…I say all bets are off and we attack the western provinces.”
Oh … You KNOW we have plans already prepped for that …
