Appeals Judge: Prosecuter Overreacted On Border Agents Compean And Ramos
Former U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos (left) and Jose Alonso Compean (right).
Judge E. Grady Jolly is 1 of 3 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing the appeals of Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos, and it appears that the judge believes the prosecutor overreacted in the case against the two border patrol agents who shot that pot smuggling puke in the ass.
The Mexican dope runner survived getting his ass shot off, but Compean and Ramos were sentenced to prison and are sitting behind bars this very minute.
The judge hasn’t officially ruled yet, but remarks like the ones made indicate he may be leaning that way. Those two guys got a bum rap, and their case deserves to be retried, in my opinion.
There has been a groundswell of public outcry on this case. Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, just to name a couple, have profiled this case many times.
From KTRE.com:
An appeals court judge says federal prosecutors may have overreacted in their case against two border agents sentenced to prison for shooting a fleeing drug suspect and hiding evidence of the incident.
Judge E. Grady Jolly is 1 of 3 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing the appeals of Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos. He says it seems “that the government overreacted” in the prosecution that led to a 12-year prison term for Compean and an 11-year term for Ramos.
A federal jury in El Paso convicted the Border Patrol agents of assault, obstruction of justice and civil rights violations in the wounding of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila near El Paso in 2005.
There’s no indication when the judges will rule in the appeals. Compean attorney Bob Baskett says he’s encouraged by Jolly’s comments, but Ramos attorney David Botsford says he’s not reading anything into the remarks.
Aldrete survived the shooting. He was arrested in November after an October indictment on various drug charges.

I’ve been hoping and praying for these two since the start. It just has been one of the more twisted (stench) judicial “logic” cases I have ever seen.
A part of my mind has been hoping the reason Compean and Ramos were railroaded was a cover for them to gather important info on the inside … But then there is small chance of THAT if they’ve actually been kept away from general population.
Bullshit all the way around.
Send them home, damn it!
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:27 amThey got screwed over that’s for sure. I hope they’ll be freed. Can’t say I would of done anything differently from these agents when confronting that smuggler.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:28 amThe only thing I would have done differently was kill that shit-bag smuggler!
Dead me tell no tales
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:43 am“Federal prosecutors may have overreacted”…. that’s putting it mildly!
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:50 amIt is about time that someone in our Federal Government has made a decision based on common sense! I am a firm believer that our Border Patrol agents are doing a job that is very much under appreciated!
December 3rd, 2007 at 12:13 pmGive them military style fire power and let them do their jobs the way they see fit!!
I hope these guys get what they deserve…FREEDOM! This whole case STINKS!
December 3rd, 2007 at 1:34 pmBashman - Thanks for highlighting this . . . lots of people are fighting hard to bring justice to this case and bring those guys home. JOHNNY SUTTON and his entire team are assholes and need to be removed from office, BUT Sutton and President Bush are “dear friends” so I don’t expect it until around January 2009 and that is when a lot of people will be screaming for his fat head. I will.
Write the guys to encourage them if you have time:

@DC:
Right on.
Recently, an EDP (Emotionally Disturbed Person) threatened to shoot his mother, who called the cops. He ran at the cops screaming “I have a gun” and holding something in his hand.
Naturally, they shot him. It turned out he was holding a hair brush, so immediately the whole anti-law enforcement crowd piled on.
I know one former Marine whose son, a cop, has been in jail for over ten years because he shot a man beating his father and brother-in-law with a baseball bat. Al Sharpton organized rallies in front of the father’s deli where it happened. I always made sure to go in and buy something when that fat fuck was around.
Recently, it turns out a witness for the prosecution was coerced. It didn’t help that the cop cooperated with the authorites, allowing the prosecution to twist his words around.
The moral:
Make sure he’s dead, and lawyer up at the first opportunity. It doesn’t matter if the guy is hacking away at a nun with a machete, some POS Harvard grad will be more than happy to earn brownie points with whatever grievance mongering group that represents the ‘victim’ (as opposed to the nun, who deserved it for being part of a patriarchal, oppressive, sexist, racist, reactionary organization, i.e. the Catholic Church) by sending you to share a cell with a crack-smoking Blood.
December 3rd, 2007 at 3:02 pmI dont know if these guys are of mexican decent but if so they are fine examples to future immigrants on how to show you are a true american. I have signed many petition for their release. They were imprisoned because they didnt file paperwork saying they shot the scumbag drugdealler and while that dealer got an immunity deal and continued to smuggle drugs, these guys languish in a prison populated by the very thugs they had help incarcerate. Welcome to america!
If we can succeed in getting these guys out we should start a fund to help these fine men care for their families and help them find work. I would love to hire them for security duties at my company.
December 3rd, 2007 at 4:59 pmHell of a recruitment program “lettuce head” has going on to get quality people to work the borders!
December 3rd, 2007 at 6:15 pmTJ: My husband and I have been donating through Grassfire - They are helping the family and also with the legal fund. Sometimes we feel so alone in Texas. I appreciate everyone’s input on this site.
December 3rd, 2007 at 6:35 pmThes guys got the shaft…no 2 ways about it.
