Baltimore 9 Question: Is Calling Someone A “White Cracker” A Racist Remark?
Sarah Kreager tried to get a seat on a bus, she ended up almost getting beaten to death.
The boyfriend, as much as we’d all like to ask him a few questions like “How come you aren’t dead or at least in the hospital from trying to protect your woman?” Troy Ennis said that the crowd that beat his girlfriend called them “White Crackers” and “White Motherfuckers.”
Hmmm…Yes or No? Do you think this qualifies as a hate crime?

I’m keeping this story aloive because it needs to be in the forefront and needs to be addressed. Doing a Bashman video on it tonight.

Crackers are white. Well, Ritz crackers are brown but most are white. I never met any White Mother Fuckers yet but then again I don’t know what goes on behind some of my friend’s closed doors with their mothers.
I’ve read that she has had this ‘boyfriend’ for about 10 years. In light of the beating she took and he didn’t and the fact that they were both homeless I assume he is absolutely worthless.

But those who are not “crackers” dare not use the term to call others not in their group a “cracker”. If one does so, it’s on.
December 10th, 2007 at 3:58 pmI think the hate crime laws are full of shit. You can’t outlaw an emotion, and sometimes hate is justified.
But, if you’re going to impose harsher penalties when the victim and perp have different races/genders/sexual orientation, you have to apply it across the board. There should be no such thing as a protected class. Start applying the rules differently based on an accident of birth, and society will break down into competing tribes, just like most of the planet.
The work of a hundred generations can be undone by the stupidity of one.

Just so you know i asked a black friend, who is incidentally from baltimore and and knows the bus in question to be a very dangerous bus, what the term cracker refers to and i was surprised that it doesnt refer to saltines. He said it refers to slave traders who used to “crack” whips at the slaves.
either way it is meant to paint white people as slave masters, is demeaning and derogatory and should be categorized as race baiting. this is obviously a hatecrime, but because they are juveniles the pc croud and jesse jackson et al will likely defend these kids as the by product of a racist society that have led them to hate their slave masters: in othe words, its not their fault.

December 10th, 2007 at 4:20 pmHmm, let me see now, if a group of white kids were doing this and yelling at a person that was not white thier perceived skin color and a known racially derogatory term it would most certainly be seen as a hate crime and blasted all over the main stream media.
So should it be viewed the same way? Most definately. Racism is racism and should be seen and treated as such no matter which race the victim is.
Will it happen this way? Most likely not. Who knows, perhaps we don’t push as hard as others in cases like this.
Forgive us if we do not go breaking out building windows and destroying everything in sight when something such as this does not go how it should.
However I am also glad that we do not. One day hopefully nobody will throw temper tantrums like that and we can all be civilized people.
December 10th, 2007 at 4:53 pmif im not mistaken, isnt just about any senseless beating like that a hate crime regardless of who is committing it. even black on black, or white on white, cause i cant think of an incident where someone beats the crap out of someone cause they like them.
for the record i too believe that hate crimes are stupid. but since we have them, it should be considered in this case. if it isnt then i guess that blacks feel that they need special rights to protect themselves cause they dont feel equal to the whites.
and has anyone heard from sharpton or jackson on this? i actually consider them some of the biggest racists in this country.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a person being deeply offended when either of those terms is used, but the “We can say it, but you can’t” attitude is total bullshit. Can’t have your cake and eat it, too.

The latest was about two years ago through a nicer part of Philadelphia called Chestnut Hill. They would attack mentally challenged and elderly. One act of boldness was when back in the 80s a school on Broad Street would let out. They’d get on the Broad Street Subway and between stops go from car to car en masse robbing everyone on the train and then disappear in twenty different directions when the train arrived at the next stop.

Four teenage black youths (16, 17, 18, 19 years old) beat Zachary Sowers, a 28 year old white man into a coma last June. There was a sentence handed down in that case yesterday where one of the attackers got 40 years. The idiot kid stomped the man into a coma after he was down and out. Sowers remains in a coma after he was beaten just steps away from his Patterson Park home by Trayvon Ramos.

The term “cracker” did not originate with the “cracking” of overseers’ whips. It came from the process of the cracking corn as a means of preserving it and for creating beer for ’shine by the second wave of Scots-Irish who had no land to take but the remote mountain land of the Appalachians in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Poor whites of the hills were referred to as “crackers,” as opposed to the “white trash” of the more settled areas of the south. To be called a cracker was to be deemed poor and ignorant. For more on this, I recommend the book, “Our Southern Highlanders,” a sociological history of the region.
