Venezuela Election Going “Smoothly”
From Venezuelan media. The official line is also that “results will be released very early tonight”:
El Universal:
Vicente Díaz, the president of the Committee of Political Participation and Funding, National Electoral Council (CNE), said that on Sunday, except for some logistical and operational troubles characteristic of the process, the constitutional referendum was going smoothly across the nation.
He noted that, compared with previous elections, fewer problems had emerged on Sunday voting.
“The process is taking place normally throughout the nation, with some small logistical inconveniences, which are, this time, insignificant, as compared to past opportunities, and this is part of a great effort made by the country in times of peace,” he said.
“Everything is going on as scheduled and absolutely normal (…) We have contingency centers across the nation and in all states with a response capacity in terms of minutes,” the official added.
“This has been one of the quietest processes we have ever had in Venezuela,” said on Sunday National Electoral Council (CNE) chairwoman Tibisay Lucena.
“The polling day is passing off quite normally across the nation. I think that now more than ever, even since yesterday night, this is something all of us can feel. Since yesterday night, the city was perfectly in peace and things were flowing normally. This is the case of today (Sunday), in this celebration for democracy,” she said.
The official reported that a group of people had been detained for committing some election-related offenses.
She countered the reports about 16 detainees and said that there were not even five people held.
The reason for the arrest, she explained, was that they had tried to take with them the voting voucher
…”going smoothly and results will be known very early?” Now, how do you suppose they manage that?
…now, where’s the guffaw button on this thing.
